Hey All,
I'm planning on starting EMT school (with the ultimate goal of paramedic firefighter). I'm interested in the fire portion like most for pay/hours etc...
Right now I live in the EMT flooded area of central FL where if you want a good job you have to become a medic. Since this was my goal basically from the first I have no problem with this. The thing is I will most likely be moving back to PA (my hometown) and I have no clue about the state of EMS there. In the Cambria/Somerset Country area especially, Pittsburgh has fire-based EMS I believe but that is about an 1:30 drive (not too bad but still far and costly if you take the turnpike). So are there fire-based EMS opportunities in my area of PA or is it mostly Ambulance service? If a service saw that I had a fire cert would that be a possible reason for hiring?
I plan on getting my EMT and fire in FL and then transferring license/certs to PA where I plan on getting my AS in EMS. So just wondering whether or not the fire will be a valid option. I'll probably still take it anyways since it doesn't hurt to have more education in fire as a medic since you work with fire regardless.
