Hey guys i'm new to this forum so I will ask this here. I am a self-employed emt and I am in the process of purchasing a new defibulator. My old one was confiscated by my County's ems squad due to misuse. I was pondering of purchasing a HeartStart Onsite. Is this any good, or is there something of a more reasonable price out there?

And not a funny one at that.

I think I just died a little inside..

I think that is a joke or a troll.

How do you "misuse" an AED?

As well, what EMS agency has the ability to confiscate personal property without due process of law?

Maybe he reverse engineered it to be able to manually defib people, and be able to make grilled cheese sandwiches

Yea just like now the AHA wants us to shock infants with a pad on its chest and back.

AND we are allowed to use adult pads if we dont have child/infant pads

Good thing the chance of a shockable rhythym is so low...that could be ugly.

I've never seen it outside of one crazy sick kid in a PICU.

I could only imagine what the parents would say if they saw us sandwich their baby between 2 adult AED pads.

This should always have been allowed, what is the worst that can happen if you use adult pads on a dead kid?

They have burns or myocardial damage when they come back to life?

They probably wouldn't have the presence of mind to know or care.

If the kid comes back you are a hero.

If not, you tried everything you could think of.

Most of them don't give a :censored::censored::censored::censored:. I had done it several times before the AED manufacturers started making pedi pads. As Veny said, if you save the kid, you're their favorite person. If you don't, you were just taking "heroic measures".

Ive had pt relatives who didnt want us to use the autopulse because it looked so "violent"

True, I've seen that before as well....most parents of a dying baby are willing to grasp at any straw. Also that's the beauty of having the fire department and the cops on scene most of the time for this sort of call: if they cause a problem, have someone escort them out of the room. With babies, you have the option to Heisman the patient and get moving to hospital.
