Hello all, this upcoming weekend I start my first job in EMS, it will be just a Patient Transport company. I have already been hired and everything but before I get put on the truck I have to do 3 third rides. I know I already have 240 hours worth of third ride time as a student. However, as a new hire, I would like to know what these companies are expecting from me, just any pointers from experience is what I am looking for.

Thanks in advanced.

Riding third sucks. For me it always makes things feel really awkward (when I would ride as the new guy that is- now I'm on the other end as an FTO). You need to figure out your FTO and figure out how they like things. For me personally, I like to stand back and convince you to work with the other medic as if I wasn't there.

As for what they're expecting, they're expecting you to be a competent provider, a hard worker, and not an *******. Accomplish those three things and you'll be fine.

Pretty standard to ride out a few shifts when starting a new gig regardless of previous experience. They are looking to make sure you are not a complete ******. Be normal and open to suggestion from your FTO and you'll be all set.
