Hey everyone, I have an interview today with an EMS branch based out of the local hospital. It's a single rig station that responds to all of the 911 calls for the surrounding county (rural area).

I did my "internships" with this company for both my basic and intermediate course so the supervisor and most of the medics are familiar with me. However, I have next to no "real" experience in EMS, and despite doing extremely well grade wise in both classes, graduating at the top of my class in both basic/intermediate, I worry that I may get in over my head . I want to do well and learn as much as I possibly can, but the actual skills portion of the job has always given me a bit of trouble (damn IV starts :glare:).

I guess I'm just looking for a bit of advice from seasoned medics as how I should go about making the most of this opportunity.

For the first long while when you start, keep yourself busy with job related activities

Knowing EXACTLY where every piece of equipment is in each bag, knowing how to use each piece properly without having to jog your memory, have a plan on how and what amount of a med to draw (thinking of peds here). Read up on protocols so that you may repeat them verbatim. Review EMT-I material from your book.

That's about all you can do(I'm sure I forgot a couple), but these small steps will definitely have you on the right track. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Better to ask early, than for your medic to realize your incompetency (if you have any, not saying you do)

Good luck and don't stress! Just be prepared and you'll do fine

Use common sense, take people to the hospital and don't harm them along the way.
