On my previous post I asked you all about new inventions for EMTs. We have decided to create a presentation on how to stabilize stretchers. If any of you have ideas, opinions, or stories please share I would love to hear them. Thanks.

Despite practice to the contrary, most stretchers are not meant to be wheeled about at their max height. If people would not use the "load height" for transport, that might be a start.

Hint: Look at the wheels, their size and dimensions will go a long way.

They're already really stable, since the wheel base is wider than the cot portion. You'd have to be pretty dense to flip one.

only thing i would recommend would be "training wheels" that are not always on the ground but if **** goes south and it starts tilting they take over? But Underoath87 said it right, flipping one already is rather difficult.

how to stabilize stretchers.

Lower the center of gravity. Like Tigger pointed out gurneys aren't meant to be wheeled around at load height (max height). They're meant to be wheeled around at around halfway, thats the most optimal. With that you lower the center of gravity and the risk of flipping the gurney. Higher the gurney, higher the chance of flipping it. You kinda have to be an idiot with no common sense to flip a gurney.
