I hope this is the right area to post this question. I have hit a road block in finding information on google so i thought I would ask the folks on here. I am going to be moving to Washington soon to get my associates in paramedicine. I can't find any information on how exactly i would go about getting my VT EMT-B license 'transferred' for lack of a better word into a WA license. Here you need to be affiliated with a squad to hold a certification at the emt level so i guess my question is what do i have to do to be an emt-b in WA, the Spokane area if I need to be specific.

Sorry I can't help with the specifics other than saying go to the state's EMS website as they would have the most accurate answers.

"Transfer" = reciprocity (remember that word from EMT school?) :)

There's always a lot of questions about getting a WA EMT cert...

The simple answer is;

1) Get hired or volunteer with an EMS agency. In other words, get affiliated.
2) Meet the WA reciprocity requirements.
2) Submit the paperwork to WA DOH.

The reciprocity page (with all the forms) is here: http://www.doh.wa.gov/hsqa/emstrauma/reciproc.htm

Please note: It takes a while to get your paperwork through the system. A friend of mine moved from CA to WA and it took over three months for his cert to be approved.

So, if you're serious about it... start the process NOW.

Good luck.

also if vermont is not national registry washington is, you will need to get started on that but do it after you file for reciprocity because your practial may not transferr over (due to different protocols). Thats what happend to me from MA to Louisiana, i had to take the practicals again because LA EMT Basics have the ability to do dual lumen airways, that was the only difference but i still had to test all stations.
