Hey everyone, finally created an account after months of lurking. I'm about a month out from finishing my EMT course. originally i did the course because around here its one of the basic requirements to get into fire. Come to find out especially after doing my clinical ride along on a 911 rig last week i love the **** out of being on an ambulance. my plan is to still eventually get into fire, but i would def not mind working on an ambulance to gain valuable exp while in the fire academy. Any tips from CA bay area EMTs or Medics?
One big question i have is how does it work with RM with IFT and making the move to 911? Whats the pay difference between the two? Thanks in advance :)
 
I wouldn't count on rural metro...something tells me they won't be around much longer. 911 is tough to get because there's a lot of competition for not a lot of spots so be patient.
 
Unconfirmed rumors I have heard say that Falck is positioning itself nicely for the 911 contract in Santa Clara County.
 
Hey, I'm probably too late but I wanted to let you know that from what I've heard, it can be more difficult to get to 911 through R/M IFT. That is what I've heard second hand. First hand I just finished their most recent 911 academy and around 20% of the group were from the IFT division, the rest were outside hires.

It is hard to get hired on to 911 in the bay area regardless of which IFT you work for.

Their contract is up in 2016. I've heard through my contacts that AMR is looking to take back the contract for Santa Clara County.
 
Hey guys got an update... Graduated my class apr 16th passed NREMT on the first attempt apr 26th... just got picked up with royal ambulance santa clara county

Rural/Metro, AMR, and Falck will probably bid for the contract. There was a news article that said San Jose Fire Department is interested in becoming the county's ambulance provider, but I don't know how feasible that is.

Unfortunately, the members of SJFD do not want to become the ambulance provider even though they already have like 5 ambulances ( squad) already. The mayor of SJ wants to make the department the county ambulance provider, but from all of my contacts in the department it's going to be really hard to do that.
