Hello EMTLife!,

i now currently live in CT but am very much considering leaving the state i see a ton of paramedic jobs in NJ. I'm wondering if this is true and what are some good hotspots for a career paramedic in NJ. It can be north or south, im also wondering about pay rates and the like. Any info would be helpful thanks--

Depends where you look. Some places frequently have FT positions open and others maybe have only one or two per year. Most hire PT or PRN, which often pay quite well (25-30$ per hour). Some places you can get hired PRN and be able to pick up FT hours (and sometimes OT).

Be aware that for reciprocity, you need to get hired first in order to get your "T-number", but the MICU will usually do the foot work for you. However, if you just got your cert, the MICU will want to see how many hours your training consisted of. If you don't meet NJs requirements (700 clinical hours of which at least 400 must be on the street), they'll require you to "ride along" to make up the balance, for which you may not get paid. And if you don't do well on the ride-alongs, they may decide that you need to do more hours or that they just won't hire you (thus you won't get a NJ cert.).
