Hey, I'm looking to see if anyone on here works for or knows much about Louisville Metro EMS. I used the search function and it looks like the most recent thread was from the middle of 2009.

Basically, I'm currently in MO but I am eager to move to Louisville near the end of the summer for personal reasons. I don't have an EMT-B license yet, which is causing a few problems. I don't want to take an EMT course in Missouri and then wait for reciprocity, but at the same time I don't want to move to KY without a job.

I am very interested in pursuing a career with the emergency services, with the hopes of becoming a paramedic. However, with the economy the way it is I'm trying to look at all my options--kind of throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. I'd really love to work as an EMT, it's just the state licensing issue is what is keeping me.

G'day mate!

I currently live in Louisville and am in the same boat as you, really. I'm not an EMT (yet) and want to work on a bus. I'm currently taking classes with Life-Savers, INC. They don't advertise and are strictly by word of mouth here in the Ville.

http://www.life-savers.org/

They tout themselves as Kentucky's #2 EMS training service and showed us statistics to back it up. According to them, Louisville Metro does a lot of their recruiting from the class itself. Good enough for me.

I'm currently in their EMT-B course and it is running me about $500 for the class and does NOT include excess fees like KBEMS application fees, NREMT fees, etc. All in all about $800.

The quality of the class is excellent so far and I really enjoy the lead instructor.

As for a job, you should consider working at UPS here in Louisville at the airport (I do that also). Apply now (online), they are hiring like crazy. If you get an interview then you basically have the job unless you're a totally incompetent idiot and believe me--I work with a lot of morons. They pay 100% college tuition at UofL. It is part time so UPS won't pay your bills if you plan to live alone but it will get ya started. It might be helpful to say that when I become an EMT I'll be taking a pay cut (sorry to say).
