LEO arrests FF for doing his job.

That was horrible. There have been a few instances where cops refuse to shut down traffic at the expense of the safety of the crews and threatened arrest. I think such cops need to be thrown off the force and possibly jailed.

Apparently stupidity costs $18k.

This officer was fined ONLY $18,000?
He should of been charged with assault, gotten put in jail, and fined a million dollars.
This is outrageous.

its cause highway patrol are idiots most of the time when it comes to emerganies. all they care about is getting the roads open again, not the well being of the injured or the emergency crews trying to help the injured.

Even in my EMT training when we did our stuff on ambulance placement, the first thing they teach us is to position the ambulance to protect yourselves. highway guys dont care about using their vehicle to protect themselves, firefighters do, you notice no highways named after firefighters, alot of them are highway patrol that were dumb and get hit by a car in the line of duty (or the ones that got shot, those are justified)

As an added note to the above.
If these law enforcemeny individuals do not die, from standing in the road, or other stupid act. Who responds to assist in trying to save them?
Emts/paramedics/firefighters etc.
Also law enforcement will shut down the state if necessary, to medevac that officer out.
So we are not protected, because they want the roads opened as quickly as possible, SCREW OUR SAFETY>
But a cop is hurt, and let's shut down any, and every road in the area to medevac OUR OFFICER out.
A definite double standard!

That's horrible. But it seems to be universal. We had an incident awhile back where we went mutual aid to the next town. The officer on scene moaned and groaned that our ambulance was blocking too much of the street and traffic could not be moved. The EMT who was driving (who was the captain) refused to move it as it was mentioned above, to protect the crew. The officer than proceeded to threaten her and attempt to get IN the ambulance to move it. A lot of officers just don't care unless it is one of their own as stated. But luckily not ALL of them are like that. But there will always be that few that make everyones job just that much harder.

I find that officers like this are in the minority.

There was an incident several years back. A paramedic, who was a retired NYPD officer, asked a local town officer for a road to be closed at an MVA. To protect the crew obviously. The cop got agitated and the two had a heated discussion which ended in the medic being arrested. The police department squashed it and never let it proceed to court. To my knowledge, there has not been a problem like this again with this department. Most officers in this department would never have done that anyway. Apparently the arresting officer had a bad rep to begin with.

There have been instances where arrest was threatened by the state police on calls on the NYS thruway. I don't think anyone has been arrested by them. To close down the thruway is a very big deal anyway. One must be very careful in how one gets a lane closed for safety. Its better to find a way to keep at least a lane open and keep yourself safe.
