Hey guys,

I got an offer from Care ambulance as a "at-will" employee. I googled it and it basically means terms of employment is not specified and they can fire me for any reason any time.
Is this how everyone starts at Care or did I get an abnormal offer?
And what are things that are different for a "at-will" employees? do we get same benefits, etc?
Any input pertaining to "at-will" employee would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!:)

Nothing new. Unless you have a union or some kind of employment contract every job is at will

At will is pretty much par for the course. Every EMT job offer I've ever gotten was at-will. Yes it means they could let you go for any reason at any time. It also means you can leave for any reason at any time. You're not locked into a contract ("You will work for us for 2 years, can't leave earlier if you decide you don't like management or get a better job offer, unless of course you pay off the contract first")

Thank for the reply. You're right, I called Care and they said in the State of California, basically all employees are offered "at-will." thanks :)

43 states are at will states, meaning that unless you have a labor union involved in collective bargaining, your employer does not have to prove just cause prior to terminating you. This is not the case in many public sector jobs where you have signed an employment contract.

There are some private ambulance services out there with unions, but those are fairly rare.
