... and I'm really excited but extremely nervous all at the same time. I'm doubting myself and my abilities, but I don't even know what they are yet. I'm sure it's just nerves. I've been trying to get into EMT programs for the past year or so, and all the local community colleges have been swamped (typical), but I recently found one that I'm sure I can get into. Anyway, how did/do you all deal with nerves and self-confidence?

As a student for EMT-B training, I deal with it by doing the assignments, going to school, and trying to learn and have a good time while doing so. And asking questions, and being wrong. Being wrong is important to get fixed.

"It is better to keep quiet, than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt of ignorance."

Okay, I'll stay quiet until I'm blue in the face (No I won't!), but what happens if I'm not quite clear what to do when someone else is blue in the face, and I could have asked in class, and avoided not being able to recall a line in a textbook somewhere?

Study, go to class, study, go to open labs if any are available, don't be afraid to ask questions, study and if your instructors ask for volunteers to help demonstrate a skill...VOLUNTEER! It took me awhile to get used to doing it but it helps you remember the skills and makes you get over being nervous.

Do all the above and you will do great! Don't be afraid to make mistakes because it's all part of the learning process!
