In a few months, I'll likely be in the same boat. Add to that, I will be relocating to a different state from where I will get my license and therefore be a stranger to the area and have already been told by one agency that they only hire the EMTs from their own education program.

So, what I'm trying to do is setup informational/site visits to make a personal contact and see where it goes from there.

From what I've read around here, just being an application in the stack is a longshot.

Best wishes...for us both!

Call back, stop back into the offices.. You're in an area where you'd do well to get on the Fire Department. Little Falls has a huge First Responder group, so does Sartell, Melrose, Alex..

You'd probably have good luck if you tried to get hooked up with the volunteer EMR group, and get some experience that way.

I agree I just applied for another hospital 40 miles from where I live. Part-time and it did not state experience preferred. But I am not going to hold my breath on that one.

I am going possibly get hooked up with Sauk Centre Ambulance, But they are going to let let me do ride alongs for awhile. And I applied for Gold Cross Mayo Medical. I have not heard from them since I applied in February.

I have 10 years experience working in the ER and I can't get a call back either!

just moved to a new town so... shoot, my old town I didn't even have to apply... <_<

anyway, if you can, try to make friends at the hospital where you'd like to work.

when I first started all I had was a CNA cert and knew a RN that worked in the ER.

Got me in right away.

I still remember going to HR to turn my application in. The lady there was very sarcastic about my prospects getting a position in the ED, week later she called me with a sheepish voice, "we'd like you to come in for an interview".

man that phone call felt good. :P

EMT Employment.

You almost have to know someone in this field, it is crazy. I was a CNA as well and I have an extensive knowledge in patient care.

Yes that is true! My resumes are as good as gold, but up in Minnesota it is hard to get a job in this field, because every Tom, **** and Harry knows everybody in these agencies and hospitals. When HR sees that they say well, let's hire him. Very interesting how the HR system works in the medical field.

You could try getting experience in interfacility or wheelchair transport divisions to get your foot in the door.
