One dead, two wounded in shooting

It was the middle of a humid summer night, at a busy convenience store just off the highway. Two Wise County sheriff's deputies had stopped a woman wanted for arrest on a misdemeanor warrant. Two men pulled up, and the trouble started. Within minutes, one of the men was dead. The other was punctured by gunshots and bleeding. One of the deputies had taken a bullet, too. The other deputy faced the terrible knowledge that he had taken a life - and the belief that if he hadn't, his partner might have died.
