Hey so I've been an EMT-B on a ALS rescue rig for about a year and am looking to get away from my boss and the horrible company that I work for. I am thinking about moving on and going to paramedic school next fall, though I'll be a green paramedic I think it would be a positive move. ANYWAY the problem I am facing is that I can't apply to any programs because they want to have signed forms from my boss stating that I have worked the necessary amount of time. I know he won't do it, I can't even tell the guy I want to go to paramedic school or the guy would probably fire me. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get around this? I am also worried about applying for other EMT or medic jobs in the future and not being able to have them be able to contact my previous employer.

Ask if they will accept pay stubs to show hours worked. Why won't he sign your forms? Fire you for wanting to attend school? Wrongful termination lawsuit.

As for using him as a contact, it's not required, furthermore if they do want to contact him, he is only allowed to say certain things by law.

You're trying to work around your Boss for some reason.

Typically there's 4 or 5 people standing on line to get your job so it's no skin off his butt if you leave for medic schools. If he won't sign off on your hours worked (as you say) there's something else going on.

What else is going on?
