Could we have a IFT category?

I understand a lot of EMS is 911, but IFT is growing more and more and is becoming more abundant and more diverse. I say us glorified taxis need a category. What do you all think?

Personally, I'd rather just merge all of the patient care topics into one single "patient care" forum. You never know when you'll be able to pull something out of a post, be it an IFT, basic, paramedic, 911, or alternative thread.

I like JPs idea. This subcategory thing makes it harder for the mods to moderate and further divides the posters.

And it brings together my suggestion at the Town Hall meeting of fewer mods instead of more...

Not at all...

If it were merged into one category....it would be easy for a mod to focus. All the poo is in one pile.

Yes, but the mods have lives too and don't spend every waking moment moderating the board, a little help wouldn't hurt.

A board does not need modding 24/7....every post does not have to be read, every word analyzed.

A little self regulation goes a long way...

Of course there will be break throughs, but for the most part the board self regulates.

When it doesn't, it is up to us to click that little icon that reports it...at this time, the mod is alerted, takes a break from his busy life, reads the thread and takes appropriate action.

It is that simple, I been doing it for years...

Back to topic...

I think that IFT is true medicine and aspects of IFT need to be talked about instead of everyone believing that IFT is just a roadblock on the way to 911; and those in IFT should view it as a real chance to be exposed to real patients, rather than the view noobs have... that it is "taxi service EMS".

However, a seperate IFT catagory? Why? IFT medicine is not that different than any other form of street EMS. The Medicine is the same. The treatment and care remains the same. The "mode of transportation: remains the same. It is not as if we are talking about a form of EMS so different that it is a little more specialized. EMS can be catagorized into either BLS or ALS. Subcatagories for training and some of the more specialized forms of EMS (such as military) are fine. IFT Catagory... Meh... I see no need... but... meh... whatever...

As for the thought that we need less catagories. How does less catagories translate into less to be moderated. Sounds like a hijacking to preach anti moderating thoughts. Not that I disagree... but let's be honest... we all use the "new post" button and, without having too much concern over what catagory each thread is in, post where we want. The catagories are meaningless to most... IMHO... Just because the XX number of threads every day are in 10 catagories doesn't mean that it is any more difficult to moderate as if those same XX threads were all in one catagory...
