I'm looking to be hired by Butler's IFT service in Maryland as an EMT-Basic. I'm thrilled because I'm only 18 and a freshman in college.

I'm looking for any sort of tips, preferably from employees or former employees, but I'll take anything I can get.

And of course I'm looking for any warnings/cautions I should be aware of.

My interview is Monday

From my experience watching them, they are a very unprofessional service. The guys wear their red button down shirts open, making them look more like surfer dudes than professional medical providers. They usually complain while waiting in the ER and the ones that I have seen have not been very nice to the patients. This is from my experience watching them at Holy Cross Hospital, where they have a contract from routine transports.

But, then again, a job is a job. I'm not saying all of them are like that, and certainly, you can be the one to dress professionally and treat your patients with dignity and respect. Good luck.

Stay away.

That service is horrible. I had a job offer from them (as an EMT-B) and after seeing their facilities and talking with some of the guys there, I turned it down and ran for the hills. Ive had plenty of friends work for them, none of them lasted longer than 6 months. Then again a job is a job, and it might be something good until you can find a job at a better place. Where are you a freshman at? If you want to work on an ambulance I would check out pro-care ambulance or pulse EMS if you're up near Baltimore. If you're closer to Washington DC there are a couple good options down that way. Send me a PM if you're interested.
