As Joey Elbaz prepares for his bar mitzvah to celebrate becoming a man, his mother can't help but recall she would have lost her infant son 13 years ago if not for the life-saving heroics of a Vaughan firefighter.

In fact, Barry Gougeon, a 27-year veteran, saved Joey's life twice in one day.

Joey was only two weeks old when he began choking after drinking a bottle Aug. 15, 1991.
