Another intro thread

Hello, saw a few introduction threads so I thought I'd start my own..

The name is Derek, I'm an EMT-B and am currently looking for employment.

Out of high school I went to college for Music Education, hated the classes and the curriculum so I dropped out and enlisted in the Marines.

That didn't work out but in my short time I noticed the Corpsman and thought... I'd like to do something in health care. I came back home and found EMS courses being offered in my area so I signed up I knew it was my thing after a few classes. I finished my Basic class and am now in school for my Paramedic, and am still loving it.

I'm split on my career path right now either going into the Fire service or try (that's the keyword) to go back to college and eventually get into medical school. Time will tell where I go...

I am not one of those that blasts the Fire-Medics or Fire-EMT's (But Firefighting isn't for me), but do realize that a Medic or EMT on a Fire truck can be *ALOT* different that a Medic or EMT on an ambulance, Be sure to look into your options before making a decision. I only bring that up because you stated that you are in Paramedic school and "Loving it".

If you are "Loving" the medicine then be sure to look into the ambulance side of it all. If I was 8 years younger, I would be working my *** off trying to get my butt into/through Medical school. But my love for the medicine stemmed from my time in the streets (albeit five short years)

Good luck on your decisions, as long as you put effort in research then either one will be the right choice.

If you are "Loving" the medicine then be sure to look into the ambulance side of it all.

Oh yeah, I'm looking into the local Fire Dept that has a separate EMS system. Still places for advancement... but don't HAVE to go through the fire academy if I don't like what I see. But I'm also looking into the local private companies... it's all about what is the best fit for me.
