Work the 911 job and get that experience under your belt, but also try to get a spot on a NET or CCT truck. You’ll gain a much deeper understanding of the disease process by managing vent patients, running drips, and hanging blood. Transporting a vent patient for two hours will teach you more than you’d expect—reading through charts, interpreting labs, and having to think on the fly when things change mid-transport sharpens your clinical judgment fast. It might not have the same adrenaline as rolling up to a crack house with lights and sirens, but those IFT patients are truly sick, and managing them over time will make you a much stronger provider.
Don’t let anyone tell you that IFT work is **** or beneath you—it’s where some of the best learning happens.
