Hi there, just wondering if anyone can tell me how to prepare and what to expect from the apply test at abbott? Thanks

Do not drink any alcohol for 6 weeks prior. Eat no unsaturated fats. Know complex quadratic equations. Be able to tie a knot in a cherry stem with your tongue. Have a tapdance routine and monlogue prepared. Know Boyle's law and the rules according to Hoyle. If you get that stuff and make it past the oral boards, you'll do fine.

Oh, and know how to take a blood pressure.

Gee... Thanks. If you didn't feel like offering advice, maybe you should have not commented??!!

Or, maybe you could read any of the dozens of "prehire/what should I expect" threads. Basic EMT questions, basic interview questions, maybe a lift test or skills testing.

Same as every other EMT job.

Or, how about this novel idea? Call and ask what the process involves.

Lighten up Francis.

Seriously?! I can't tell if your trying to help or trying to make me feel like an idiot. I don't think my question was that ridiculous. Just trying to get advice, no need to be a smart ***.

Ok. Let me rephrase, with no sarcasm or hint of humor.

Most basic EMT jobs have the applicant take a written EMT knowledge exam, perform a practical skill or two, pass a stretcher lift test and take part in basic job interview with a supervisor or HR person. If you're uncomfortable with this, I suggest you call the HR department and ask about their specific hiring process.

How's that?

(sorry, I thought the first reply was funny.)

The written test is ridiculously easy. The interview is a joke. First 4 people finished with the test with a passing score get the interview. The interview has nothing to do with your EMS skills/knowledge.

Thankyou truetiger. If I don't finish in the top four, do I just take the test again another day?

Sometimes they call the other applicants that passed. They interview the first four with passing scores. Speed counts. So if you got a 100% but finished 5th...no interview for you.

Thanks again. Now I'm incredibly nervous! But it's good to know what to expect!

I thought it was funny

In my opinion it was funny... But just some advice to the OP, you need to lighten up and develop a thick skin FAST.. or you'll make it nowhere in this buisness... EMS is highly reputation based and a lot of the members on here have some substantial influence at a lot of companies around the US. I'd highly recommend changing that horrible attitude.

It's not a horrible attitude. Sorry you take it that way- I'm just taking things seriously. I can take a joke, but getting a job is serious. Maybe just recognize that a newbie Might be expecting some real advise?

....I undestand you want to take things seriously, but this is over the top seriousness. I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY to pour out my advice and so would everybody else on this forum... but with responses like that we'll just not respond period and you won't get any help at all. So please, for your sake.. do not treat your jobless situation with the same gravity expected for say, a relative dying or if you were told you had terminal cancer.. You'll get no sympathy from me.

You want us to treat you like a friend here right? Not some noobie who flips his lid over some casual joking around, right? Cause no body likes the later of those two options and nobody will interact with what I affectionatly refer to as an :censored:....

If you'd like to continue with some carefree banter, we'll gladly share some advice. Till' then... :nosoupfortroll: :nosoupfortroll: :nosoupfortroll: :nosoupfortroll: :nosoupfortroll:

end rant... :deadhorse:
