I took a look, no discoloration or swelling but I did not palpate, he told me it was not sore to the touch so I figured it was more internal. One of the EMTs did bring up the possible idea of an MI, due to his skin condition and blood pressure etc. Plus an MI being a referred pain, but for an MI...
Hello everyone, Just recently I went on a call. Came over dispatch as abdominal pain, I arrived on scene with a 59 y/o male complaining of a "groin pain". Got one emt to do vitals while I questioned the pt. Said he was working all day in his yard and building a shed, went into his garage and...
Depending what part of the city you live in, Rockland county offers B/I/CC/P classes for the public, you just need to look up what class is next that they teach. They have all the info on who to contact on the NYS-DOH website
Hey guys, Ive been looking around everywhere and i have talked to a few people but they still havent answered all my questions about CME's. Im a newly certified EMT-B for New York (Graduated 3 months ago) and now im already looking to plan my way of re-cert in 3 years.
Some have told me for...
I started by being a part time paid Fire fighter and apart of a vollie FD. The company put me through EMT-B at no cost to me, and when i found out i passed ive been looking for jobs ever since haha
As far as jobs, I know nothing about down south or out west. Im from New York, and all i can...
I just called them about a month ago and they put me down on the list for FDNY EMS. I havent taken any civil service exams or anything for NY and i told the operator that, she also told me starting in January if any branch of the FDNY or NYPD call you to appoint you for your investigator to get...
slim chance. Im still fairly a new EMT-B for NY. I applied everywhere and I have 5 years experience on a Fire Dept that runs medical calls, along with less than a year experience vollie work for an ambulance corp and everyone is telling me experience doesnt count toward the FD running medical...
Everyone always told me the NYS written is MUCH easier than the final exam, so i was happy as all hell after i found out i got a 90 on my final.
I kept up my studying to prep me for my state written and it was a huge difference from what everyone told me. My state written was 10 times harder...
Hey Lucy, Which written test did you take? Did you take the most recent one in july that was like literally 70% OBGYN questions?
Because i took that one, and out of my class of 86 the instructor told me less than half passed.
Thank you monkey squasher, I came to this forum with hopes i could find someone else from NYS who already took it (and possibly even helped with practicals) so i can learn what to remember and what was critical and most forgotten. Thank you again this was a huge help!
especially because i...
Adamjh3 Thats actually a great way to remember the entire assessment. I wish i learned it this way. As long as you remember each letter of the acronym its honestly fail proof. Kudos for coming up with that and thanks!
Dominion a bunch of mu buddies ended up printing out the exact practical...
I been told 2 different ways, and the way you just stated does seem to make the most sense, but i just wanted to make sure its right. Because in NY its critical to pass the practical for when to take care of life threatening injuries and secondary injuries.
Thanks jesusfreak
Yea i been talking to a few people to start trying to set up some other ride alongs soon, Im looking for somewhere really busy though :P
But Thanks! good luck with the class!
Hello all, hoping i can finally get a straight answer from somebody!

Hello all,
New to this forum and to the EMS world!
So after roughly 6ish months, my EMT-B class is just about over. Start written exams in 3 days, then onto state practicals
Very nervous, but at the same time kind of excited! I did my 12 hour ride along and got a crap load of...
