EMT program preparation @Kapiolani Community College

Yeah I don't know too much about Canadian EMS certification. I moved to the mainland after my EMT class and it was kind of annoying to get the certification to transfer over. Just a lot of extra work. I know there are some paramedics from Canada that might be able to help you better than I can...

EMT program preparation @Kapiolani Community College

No worries! I had a hard time finding information too when I applied. I think they care the most about anatomy and physiology and medical terminology. I don't think a B in would hurt your chances of getting in. As long as you passed I wouldn't retake a course. I know a few EMT's, now...

EMT program preparation @Kapiolani Community College

I took their EMT class a few years ago, some of this might be out of date. It is challenging but as long as you study you'll do fine. The best thing (in my opinion) is to get the highest grades possible in the prerequisites. This will give you a good background and increase your chances of...

Interview for ED Tech; I think I'm in way over my head

I can't speak for all hospitals, but I know a few EMT's that got jobs at hospitals and they were trained to do IV's after they were hired. They live in Florida too. I think it's usually a course through the hospital that the hospital paid for. I wouldn't worry about it (like a previous poster...

    Vollying while you're paid?

I volunteered on a BLS truck shortly after I became an EMT. I was called for a job interview the day I signed up to volunteer. My plan was to do both, but the last thing I wanted to do after working was to drive an hour for an unpaid shift. I decided I could just pick up a shift at work if I...

Recommendations for a book on aviation?

Check out the Helicopter Flying Handbook. It's published by the FAA and used to train helicopter pilots. I took flying lessons in an airplane and I used the airplane version. If you want to go a little more in depth with aerodynamics, I'd also recommend Aerodynamics for the Naval Aviator. It...

Looking for a school in pinellas county florida for EMT

SPC has an EMT program, I can't tell you much about it because I didn't go there. Here is their website: http://www.spcollege.edu/emt/ I have worked with people who went there and it seems to be a decent school. Check it out.

    Driving Emergency

I always try to look really far down the road, it helps to anticipate traffic changes. Be prepared for other drivers to slam on their brakes in front of you when driving emergency. I also found it useful to proceed slowly through red lights. If traffic was really bad, I'd turn off the lights and...

    Alternative EMT programs for Hawaii

I haven't been in here in a while, but FYI City and County discontinued their EMT academy a few years ago. I just don't want anyone to be misled.

    Alternative EMT programs for Hawaii

This really depends on where you want to work/live. If you want to stay in Hawaii and work on an ambulance, either C&C or AMR, you will need to go to KCC. If you study hard in your prerequisites and do well in your interview it shouldn't be a problem getting in. Volunteering in a hospital helps...

    Honolulu EMS

While I have not worked for Honolulu EMS, I've worked with them during my clinicals at KCC. If you go to KCC (you kind of don't have a choice in Honolulu) you'll work with them a lot. Overall, I would say that they know what hey are doing and are very competent clinically. They have extremely...

Volunteering as an EMT in Miami Florida

How far do you want to drive? I don't know what part of Miami you live in, but there is the Key Largo Volunteer Ambulance Corps. I've never worked with them, so I can;t give you much information on them, I found their website though: http://www.keylargoems.com/ I hope this helps.

How much clinical time did you have in your Basic class?

I had 280 clinical hours for my class. The first part was in the hospital (L&D, CCU, ICU, ER, Psych) and the second part was on ambulances. I am glad that I got to have this experience, although I still feel like I could use more of them. I learned a lot and enjoyed my shifts.

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

My test stopped around 70-75 questions (I wasn't paying attention to the question #) and I passed. Good luck to those who need to take it!

    Scuba Diving?

As you can probably tell by my screen name, i also like diving :). I'm also a rescue diver with PADI, but I haven't been diving in a few years. I haven't been diving in a few years though because I don't have a reliable dive buddy anymore.

so maybe it's not the new tv show Trauma...

My favorite show is still Battlestar Galactica. I also like King of Queens, Seinfeld, Mythbusters, and also Deadliest Catch. For my favorite movies, I like Sherlock Holmes, Alien, Airplane, The Hangover and Apollo 13 (I still would not mind being an astronaut).

Would it be possible to work in another state if?

Just because someone played that prank on you does not mean it was right. I believe that EMS is the right field for some people and the wrong field for others. I think you should find another line of work because you obviously cannot think for yourself enough to say "I didn't like it when this...

As long as you can hear what you need to with it, I don't think it matters. Go for it.

Cool, I also want to get my BSN. I want to wait until after I get my EMT-P, though.
