Congratulations, I myself start class at the end of August, but I've been certified in a different state so not as much excitement. It does feel good getting into ems though.
It really does depend on where you live and how the city operates. Most paid ems providers in volunteer fire departments aren't required to be firefighters, but in a lot of big cities it is a requirement.
Not to say that it can't/doesn't happen in the reverse, but the firefighter 1 isn't that...
If I were you, I would definately continue with the education. Paramedic school is worth going through, definately makes finding a job easier as EMT-B's outnumber medics about 3 to 1.
