    Switchblade Knife

Do I NEED a switchblade? No. But I have yet to find a fixed blade knife that works for the purposes this one does. Small and compact with the EMS tools I need on it. I dont see a reason NOT to carry one if you can. Whats the difference between a switchblade and fixed blade? In essence, nothing...

Missouri Fire/EMS District Bans Employee Smoking

My cities Fire/EMS guys have had this in place for awhile I think. The LEO's are still catching up but there was some news a couple years ago about a local PD being the first in the area (PD not fire) to enforcement zero tolerance for smoking on or off duty. They do test and it can result in a...

    Switchblade Knife

So I know here in Ca the penal code says a switchblade, or auto-knife, can be carried under 2' in length (Inches... I can never remember if its ' or '') and not in a car. But Ive also always heard that LEO, Firefighters etc. are exempt from this. I found this really nice and handy auto-knife...

    EMT-B Class Questions

What textbook did you guys use in your EMT-B class? Im using Emergency Care to prep myself. Not 100% sure what the actual class uses. Anyone got any input on Emergency Care or anyother textbook out there? Also, what equipment did you need to buy. I do SAR stuff so I already have a trauma kit...

    Online Paramedic Program

Well the practical training and hands on stuff needs to be done in classroom. But I dont see a reason why the book knowledge cant be done online. I prefer going to a actual class myself. Keeps me focus and makes sure I actually learn but those who can handle it, why not. If they can pass the...

    Interview Question...

Well I know in fire agencies around here, no facial hair is allowed. Not sure about AMR. I would say with the market the way it is right now, be glad you got a interview at all. I would look as clean and sharp as you can. Do what you can to get this job. Dont risk it. Just shave. Id rather look...

Is this an appropiate reason for Code 3 Transport?

Well I would say Code 3 is appropriate. One because of the ETA. Second is because this guy is a prisoner. The less time spent in the rig with this dude the better. Even with LEO on board, its still dangerous. Anything could happen. Get the guy to a hospital ASAP. For everyones sake.

    More Medics Who Don't Assess

How is this even possible? What could the excuse be? I guess they just assumed he was dead. Oh well. I guess next time they will take the 15 seconds to check for a pulse. Not that hard.

Fake Responder Interferes at Oklahoma Crash Scene

Im not only a EMT (soon to be Paramedic) but also in the Sheriffs SAR here. I tend to respond to any emergency I see regardless of on duty or not, no matter what. However, in my vehicle (or any Im riding in at the time) I always have at the least my ball cap (Sheriffs Department Search and...

Woman Arrested for Swearing at 911

For those defending the dispatcher, your obviously defending him out of the need to defend your fellow public servant. We all feel that need but I mean come on. 1. It took 3 calls to get the dispatcher on the line. I would be pretty frustrated, scared etc. also. She handled it very well I...

    Cash-strapped states raid 911 funds

Here in Sacramento, our Sheriff's department is laying off 200+ deputies. Our Metro fire district is getting cuts to. I cant seem to grasp the logic of cutting public services as a first resort. With Education, public services should be the last thing to go. In my opinion at least.

First Ride Along w/ Funny Story

Im split here. I agree 100% this story should not have been posted. I also agree that the acts of the medics were horrible and unprofessional and could even result in their licenses being revoked. However, I will say this... How many of you have done coke. As someone who knows all to well...
