    To our European members...

Looking for information based on European EMS... Need to know what standards, guidelines, acts, etc... that are/were used to come up with the current duty uniform. Looking for specifics on why certain colors were chosen, types of materials, etc... Example in Canada some departments may use NFPA...

Request for assistance... pepper spray calls

In a perfect world... we'd add units... but it's not an option... no funding from the powers that be. For the most part in my experience... these pts generally do not need transport. Having TEMS training, military experience... a little soap and a lot of H2O generally "cures" these pts...

Kevlar Vests Not Likely for Missouri Responders

Yeah I don't envy a FF wearing a vest... especially in some of the climates out there... as a Medic I think it's a now brainer. IMHO B.

Kevlar Vests Not Likely for Missouri Responders

Any idea what type of weapon was used? Any idea where the FF?Medic was struck? If it was a long gun... a vest is pointless unless your wearing NIJ LvIII with ceramic plates... I will continue to wear mine whenever I leave the station... weather it's a call or to the local Timmy's for...

    Refusals

Armchair quarterbacking.... Did the local PD call EMS just for an assessment or did family call? What was the original dispatch info? Was this pt hemodynamically stable? v/s taken? Normal range? A/0x4... person, place, time, events? No evidence of drugs/ETOH? Pt a risk to self or...

Winnipeg paramedics, firefighters to learn self-defence

Half our membership is looking for soft body armor... another 25% or so is sitting on the fence so with education they could be persuaded either way and another 25% are saying no. We have mentioned it once or twice to our Administration who have responded with "careful in what you wish for" &...

other than basic bls ambulance, what are some cool jobs to do as an EMT?

You could work in the oil sands, oil rigs (land & water), dignitary protection, in the "Green Zone".... I agree with a few other posters... get some experience in an urban setting working full time... you may just want to stay. Many larger services have specialty teams like Tactical EMS...

Body Armor - Stab Resistant and/or Bullet Resistant

I wear a Pacific Safety Products (PSP) Griffin... NIJ LvIIIA with a 10x12 IMPAC-ST plate. A bit of over kill... wanted a LvII but the price was right for the III... that said we just reclaimed murder capital/per capita again along with stolen auto, violent crime, robberies and slurpee titles...

Along with the physical component of this course we included Tactical Comms and Situational Awareness... basically we wanted to give our members a few techniques to get away if the crap hit the fan... a thigh stun and brachial stun based on the PPCT Violent Patient Management course. Done...
