Have you been a career EMT/Paramedic and if not what did you do first?

Management in retail. Got tired of the same ole thing everyday and wanted to do something my kids would be proud of me for. Then once I realized I did not wanna be a shoe saleswoman forever, I hit college and never looked back!

    This caught me off guard....

Sorry so long, gotta get this off my chest. Ok so I got a speeding ticket last month. My first traffic violation ever, I was offered to take defensive driving class to keep it off my record. (Awesome!) anyways I took the class today, didn't realize it would be as good as it was. I would...

    External jugular

M Most I've seen done in the leg, which is farther from the heart, and going thru the bone it just seems like it'd be a slower route... I have seen a video on contrast dye being flushed thru a humeral IO and it got to the heart very rapidly!! I don't have a scientific evidence to back up my...

    External jugular

How many would rather IO someone or would you rather hit the jugular? I prefer external juge and feel as if the IO isn't as good for med administration. Any take on this?

    Dangers of EMS? Any experiences?

Exactly. We are told to toughen up by peers or it's just brushed off for the most part

    Dangers of EMS? Any experiences?

No not living under a rock lol, that's why I brought this subject up, because we have a lot of dangers but no one seems to do anything about it. We have taken DT4EMS class which is very informative on the subject but that's about it

    Rural EMS

I can't compare because I've always worked rural, well a city of 10,000 and the surrounding small towns. I can tell you that what I've experienced is for the most part there are always an abundance of volunteer first responders that show up and know the area. They have helped us find locations...

Scenario-ish: To intubate or not to intubate?

We don't have RSI capability at our service yet. I really wish we did because I have had several situations where it was very much needed.

Scenario-ish: To intubate or not to intubate?

I think you did great, vitals show the bagging was effective at the time. RSI and intubation would have delayed transport time, I think you did a great job.

    I can't stand being a paramedic.

No this usually sets in after a year or so. If you are feeling this way already, get out now!!!! I am at 4.5 years and actually have an exit plan now and I couldn't be happier about it!!
