No additional charge. I agree total that starting a line does not indicate the need for BGL. However it being already available (with no further invasive procedure of patient) it does on some rare occasions reveal valuable information.

If I start a line I check BGL. Why not? I however don't start a line on every patient and only check a BGL if I feel it is warranted. While I have never been told to always check a BGL, now that you mention it, I am asked more often lately if I did?

The town I work for actually has one of our old ambulances with the lights removed of course, that they use to house the camera for checking sewage lines. Not much different than the ones still in service. It gets called out when the feces backs up.

If a person has no blood, airway and breathing become very unimportant. For the skills if it is a life threatening bleed it must be stopped first. I just took the NREMT test about three or four weeks ago (passed it) and on my particular test, I don't recall any questions concerning this.
Most of our low risk patients have no regular physician. Usually not enough money for a Yellow Cab. Would be a wonderful system, but liability would be UNREAL.
