    Common reasons people quit

Is it common for people to quit on the spot? I'll admit, I was one, but it was a bad place to be. I was wondering if this was rare or if it was common for people to quit and what they're reasons might've been.

Looking for a little input about what happened.

I agree with you 100% but what bugged me was the fact that this pt. was placed on BLS instead of ALS. Thank you guys for your input by the way. I've been feeling pretty bummed out about this but after seeing that people are behind me on my choice, I'm feeling better. My plan is to go to a...

Looking for a little input about what happened.

Let me start from the beginning. I have a friend who was an EMT-B for a local ambulance service. He told me they were hiring so I showed up and applied. I filled out the application and talked to the guy and he said I was hired as long as I didn’t have anything on my driving record, no formal...

    flexible schedules

How flexible are private ambulances with firefighter schedules? I'm a volley right now and I work one 24 hour shift a week but its ABC shift so if I work Monday one week it will be Tuesday another. Will this hurt my chances with these companies? I don't mind pulling a a 24 and a 16 hr shift.

Paramedic school and the real world

How did you guys go through school AND support yourselfs? Do schools work with your schedule or you work with theirs? Did you take the month off for the FD ride outs or change up your schedule? Just seeing what you guys did so I have an idea of what to expect down the road. Also I only...

    Why this but not that?

When I did my ride outs, two different medics had their own pulseox's that they used. I asked them about it and they said most of the medics with the department liked using them. Do medics also use electronic blood cuffs as well? [forgot to ask]

Do you agree with this statement?

I think your referring [since I started this chaos]. I know I have no experience under my belt other than my ride outs/clinicals but I understand what a lot of people are saying here. My skills are rusty, I'll admit since I'm in fire school, but I remember during my ride outs I ALWAYS looked at...

How would you answer this one.....

Would you move the Pt. AND at the same time make sure they have an airway? [Not trying to answer question as A,B,C,D but what to do in the field]

Do you agree with this statement?

I'm glad you said this because I'm in that boat at the moment. I want to be an EMT to help people and gain experience to be a paramedic or a FF/EMT but at the same time I'm afraid of messing things up. It's a twisted web I've spun:wacko:

Do you agree with this statement?

I remember my instructor telling us... "If you forget everything in this class, ALWAYS remember ABC and you'll be ok" Agree or disagree?

Thanks reaper! Exactly what I was hoping to look at.

    Protocols

I was wondering if anyone could post there protocols or at least show me a general idea of what a set looks like. On a positive side note, I’m taking a test for a volunteer firefighter position in March. No certifications are required and I’m hoping my EMT-B and clean record will put me “one...

    Disagreement on a scenario

you guys bring up a lot of interesting points. next time, ill try and be more specific about everything. we were taught in basic "the ABC's" so what i was trying to hit hard on was the fact that his breathing wasn't good but at the same time he was bleeding from his Abd. (was trying to see if he...

    Disagreement on a scenario

since my friend and I have not been hired yet as EMT-B's (we're both in firefighter school) we always drill each other on different scenarios. We were drilling each other last night when we came up with a scenario we disagree on: You have a 25 year old male who is unresponsive. No medical...

    Working Hours

I just got my EMT-B cert. and was wondering what kind of hours you guys worked? When I did my ride outs with a private company, they had 8,12,16,and 24 hours shifts starting at all kinds of hours (the weridest was 3am to 3pm). Just wondering if this was a set thing for all companies or if...

Anyone else have problems with their name?

I go by Jeff but on all my cards it says Jeffrey. When I made my account on NREMT, I put Jeff and ended up gonig through a circus just have it changed to Jeffrey (since all the information on your ATT has to match your other ID's). I made an account on pearsonvue and set a test date and guess...

    I did it!

You guys weren’t kidding when you said time flies by. 120 lecture hours, 30 hours in the ER, and 45 in the box and I feel like I haven’t even started. I’m hoping to get on with a private company once I pass my national registry but after my ride outs and pondering the last few hours about them...

    Trouble with assessments

I got them done but let me tell ya, lots of negative feedback from my pt's. I didn't do anything wrong but when I asked if it would be ok if I asked them a few questions to pass my rotation (I had a big "STUDENT" badge across my chest) they would roll their eyes, moan, etc. but still agreed to...

    clinicals

I finished my rotations yesterday and let me tell you, WHAT A BLAST IT WAS! I was nervous about doing the EKG's on the females and asking pt's more questions which they had already been asked but I did it and I feel great now. I saw a lot of things (pedi. 2nd degree burns, OD'S, MI's, etc) and...

    Trouble with assessments

Wow, now that I look at what you said and my assessments, I have been asking yes/no questions. Its amazing looking back on them now the little things I missed like not checking the pelvis, listening to breath sounds, etc. I think its because since I was in the ER everyone pretty much knew what...
