I scheduled mine for the day after I was cleared to take it. No extra studying, but reviewed BSI for special things (like TB) and reviewed OB/Gyn since I heard those were favorite topics.
I'm a vet tech and work teaching in a vet tech program at my state's university. I have students who are an absolute wiz with skills but are unable to pass our national board (just a test, no skills tested for licensing). If things dont work twice, you need a major overhaul. I would venture a...
Ugh, hubby took it again today. Less then 80 questions, felt great - big ole' fail. I feel like his fail is my fail, I can't keep asking him practice questions and anatomy drills - I'm going to throw up. But, for the next 15 days we'll be working on more material and hopefully 3 is the charm....
The article is incorrect, dogs do sweat through their pads, albeit not a huge amount of heat is lost that way it is still sweat. But I'm just splitting dog hairs ;)
Apply cold water or alcohol to the paw pads works great, and if you're up to it a cool water enema will surely bring the dog's temp down.
And don't get bit. I was on a rabies quarantine where a good Samaritan tried to 'save' the dog from the heat, and got bit in the face.
Ditto on that. My vet tech students get uber excited about their VTNE exam (our boards) and start reading the review books and tests way before they should. They get easily discouraged by not knowing the answers - but truthfully they never knew them to being with.
I suggest pace yourself...
It's not for me, it's for my husband.
A. He has a limited amount of time that he can fit in schooling due to work and our daughter
B. Our local school is well WELL known for "oh, it's nice today, let's just let out early" and half a$$ed hands-on training
C. Has medical training already
So I come as a complete newbie looking for an answer Google can't seem to give me (that should be a clue, huh?). Is anyone aware of a school that offers a 'fast track' EMT-B course, something shorter then a semester?
Thanks a ton if someone has an answer :)
