    Chicago Fire

The reenactments are pretty cheesy sometimes. They're much better at re enacting medicine than police work, they had a swat team in one of them for a hospital shooting and it was hilarious to see how cheesy the swat team was acting.

    Chicago Fire

I have to admit that there were times I would stop watching "Paramedics" because nothing interesting happens. Which, you know, is okay because that's how it really is since its a documentary show. But sometimes it was just boring. I don't know how medically accurate Untold stories of the ER is...

The new reality of "scene safe..."

I disagree with this, a cop will be a much better medical provider even after a 8 hour course than a medic will be after an 8 hour pistol course, there's no way you can give an EMS person a gun with no previous firearms experience and a short pistol course (or even a long pistol course) and...

The new reality of "scene safe..."

Do TEMS medics not treat injured by standers? I understand that if they leave the medic behind and :censored::censored::censored::censored: hits the fan then the SWAT team has no medic to respond immediately and that screws them (and also one less person to help clear), do SWAT teams not use...

Violence Against EMS Providers: What Can We Do About It?

Are those different than regular defense techniques? Do they involve attacking them with the defib pads or trauma shears? :P

    tv show TRAUMA resurrected!

I thought this topic was about trauma: life in the ER and I got so excited I peed a little, and then remembered there was that other show trauma and now I'm sad.

Different angle: why basic level technicians?

I sorta don't understand having 4 levels of EMS thing...if its a basic/para, then where do I and CC fit in? And why do you need I and CC if there is a paramedic on board anyways? I guess if it was a really bad PT then having someone with I or CC could help. What would happen if there was only...

    EMS Around the world

You mean It's not an active war zone?

Different angle: why basic level technicians?

It seems like requiring paras to be PA's or MD's is too much to me...because while there are some that will work as an EMT on the side, how many will choose to work as an EMT full time that might not get payed much vs PA or MD that gets payed more? Especially when they could just work in the ED...

Things that get "stuck" in People besides knifes

Heard about a guy that tried to fix his constipation by jamming a vibrating tooth brush up his rear. It got stuck of course. Someone else filled their rectum with polyurethane foam because they "wanted a buttplug that filled them" The 3lt soda bottle and the aliens guy are pretty ridiculous...

Is EMT a good idea for me?

Most PA schools require prior HCE...I was thinking ER tech but they prefer EMS experience, or surg tech but I'm not sure how I'd be able to hold up to some of the longer surgeries, plus I'd have to do a certificate program for that, even though right now I have a dual major, but might eventually...

patient assessment...the house and monk way

I always thought the house way of assessing patients was to avoid them completely and just read about their symptoms???

Is EMT a good idea for me?

The biggest volly agency around here says this: "Once you complete the requirements of the academy new members who are volunteering as a EMT or Driver will ride as a third crew member until they feel comfortable working as a second crew member." But it also says this :/ "All potential...

Is EMT a good idea for me?

I'm not sure if there are any...I think all the crews are two person crews, one para and then any of the other levels I think. I might get lucky if I get nothing but BLS calls because that would mean they'd be my PT.

Is EMT a good idea for me?

I'll have to look into clinical things then...I hope my disabilities wouldn't disqualify me from that too...I don't really wanna lie about it...

    IVs for EMT-B

Not an EMT but this thread made me curious about something, if EMT's can do king tubes and laryngeal masks why can't they do ET tubes? From my limited googling it seems like you could easily put a king tube down the wrong hole, maybe not a LM though. Also, why would you use one over the other...

Is EMT a good idea for me?

Thanks you guys, it seems like the things I thought would be an issue are. I suppose some background would help, I'm in school right now for IT with a gen studies major and depending on how some of my science classes go like A&P, microbio, pathophysiology etc I might switch to health science...
