Saving lives is not my primary consideration for becoming an EMT, it's certainly part of it, but not my only reason, by far.

I have no desire to be a paramedic to be able to talk about how many lives I'd saved. I'd actually rather people not know.

I guess my question should have been: "Would a Paramedic have the ability to save the life of someone who'd suffered physical trauma?"

That is what I wanted to hear, that's what I was talking about. I know more than 95% of calls will be tedious and run of the mill, but that is what I was talking about. Thank you.

Yeah, I know most calls are things like that, but I mean the calls where there's actually serious physical trauma. Do EMT's actually save lives in this area, or is that in the realm of a trauma surgeon?

It's not really cost that's the problem, it's time. Is it normal to be trained as a Paramedic while in college, and is it a reasonable goal? I guess the only way to definitively tell is contacting the paramedic and EMT programs...

I'm in college at LSU with a biology major. I really like my studies and don't want to have to take a break from them to do something else, but I would like to become a certified EMT-P. Is there a way I can reasonably do this while still in college? I don't want to have to quit school or...

I'd love to be a Navy corpsman, but if the Army won't take me because of the medicine I have to take, I doubt the Navy would take me :unsure:

Thank you. One more question: Would an EMT-B have about the same ability to treat wounds (combat related or otherwise) as a 68W? Or is a 68W on par with an EMT-P?

So in a hypothetical situation, if an EMT-P was suddenly placed in a 68W's shoes, would he/she be unable to do much?

I tried to join the Army as a 68W combat medic, but because of my asthma and the medicine I have to take for it the recruiter said I am unable to join. That said, I really, really want to learn combat medicine, even if I'm not in the Army. Is there a way I can do this? I know it seems odd...
