So I got my EMT-B cert. now....

ER Techs also get paid a lot higher than an EMT would working in the field with a private service. EMT-B in the privates make $10 (in the Midwest), Paramedics make about $15 (again, in the Midwest). I'd imagine that the salaries are substantially higher for ER Techs and Advanced Techs...

So I got my EMT-B cert. now....

The private company I worked for required employees to be 21 years old before they can drive the rig. This is simply because their insurance would not insure a driver under 21. So, as I was only 20 when I worked during the summer, I was stuck doing patient care in the back for every call...

    The stair chair

The answer to this question entirely depends on what you're comfortable with. Personally, I would not be comfortable 2-manning a 250-lb deadweight patient on a stair chair up 28 steps. I'd definitely hella call for backup. However, if you and your partner are both muscle-bound and comfortable...

    anybody work for Superior?

This is a fairly accurate statement. For some reason, I forgot to mention some of these things in my previous blurb about Superior. At Superior, you are required to sign up for three 12-13 hour shifts every week. You are not required to work any more beyond those three 12-13 hour shifts per...

    anybody work for Superior?

Superior is one of the largest private ambulance services in the Midwest. I'd be very surprised if they don't get major contracts pretty soon servicing different hospitals and different nursing homes. I'm not sure how Superior operates in Michigan as I'm from Illinois. This past summer, I...

Job Prospects as new EMT-B in Chicago suburb?

Hell, I feel more comfortable teching than driving the bus, especially at night. But I'll be ok with doing either. I think of that as a good thing. I'd rather be busy during the work day rather than having nothing to do but fill out run reports at the station.

Job Prospects as new EMT-B in Chicago suburb?

That's good to know. Thanks. I had a couple of other logistical questions. Since I'll be the newbie, I guess that I'll do most of the driving? I heard that many insurance companies require the driver to be 21, but I do not turn 21 until the end of the summer. This won't be a problem, will it...

Job Prospects as new EMT-B in Chicago suburb?

Hello everyone! I'm honored to join your community. I'm currently a university student (you can probably guess where by my screenname) who is about to take the MCAT's in a month ... :o . Last summer, I got my EMT-B license both with the State of Illinois and the NREMT. However, because of...
