Need help setting up a drill involving a patient with a gun

Posted this on reddit also, just needs some fleshing out if you guys would be so kind. I have been trying to work on a BLS Scenario involving a patient with a gun for the last few days now. I am trying to break away from the normal skill drills, and other run of the mill training situations...

    Pt. Interaction

Every time I hand a patient the consent form, I say "This is just a paper stating that I didn't kidnap you." Always get a smile.

    Design for EMS practitioner

How about a power gurney that is as lightweight as a regular stryker gurney, that can operate with the same ease. We got a power gurney about a year ago, and I've only used it twice. It's too bulky for some of the tight corners we have to go through, and too heavy for practical use IMO.

    Design for EMS practitioner

What we need is a remote control for the gurney, so that one person can operate it.... Give it like a video camera, and the ability to turn through doorways. This can all be done from the rig. Then, when you get to the patient, out comes 2 large forks that go under the patient....

Dumbest thing heard on the radio

Bull! If your doing going full code, the patient's vitals are something along the lines of Pulse-100, Respirations-12, With a Systolic bp of about 50.

Where do you keep your Medical tape??

I do this, Makes it easier if you only have one free hand and need some tape, just pull the leading edge and it rotates along the loop, allowing you to basically use it as a scotch tape dispenser.

If I were the boss of EMS....

I kind of understand where you are coming from, but I must disagree. around where I live, we have about 6 major volunteer corps, and they only have a few paid crew supplementing their runs. That would put a lot more strain on the career crews, who are already spread thinner than they would like...

Rip Shears: Buy one get one free!!

Sorry to necro a thread, but I have been looking to order one of these, but have a possibly silly question. When I went to order, it asked me what type of shear I wanted. There was none, standard, and titanium. I am only guessing, but is this option for if you want just the rip shear, rip shear...

Fair enough, I have stated in other posts that I am still relatively new. Good to have this information, and I will adjust accordingly.

    My BIGGEST pet peeves

Anything under patients norm/ roughly 96 or less. even if its a couple of points, a minor improvement is still an improvement, IMO.

CPR and transport, when to stop it and just drive...

In all reality there is nothing that they can do, but still, once you start CPR, you have to keep going, and if the ALS tech or whoever is running the call says transport, you have to do it.

CPR and transport, when to stop it and just drive...

As far as NYS goes, We are to shock no more than 3 times then begin transport. Obviously, though, this is textbook. In the field we tend to do compressions while we package, and give them some LSD. You can always shock en route if need be, but from what I hear there is rarely a 2nd shock at all...

    The Official EMTLIFE Introduction Thread

Im Leafmealone, I became an EMT-B back in May. I run with a volunteer agency that does strictly 911. I have been in EMS for over a year now, and on my first ride along I caught a full code 20 minutes in, and decided that this was what I wanted to do. I'm not a code junkie, or a trauma nut, and...

Oh that is what that's for? I've always just stuck a pen there thinking that was its purpose. Either way, it works great.
