so i just realized a few things:
1. not a single Australian on the forum has backed AREMT as a solid organisation so far... but that's completely besides the point.
To be perfectly honest, judging any organisation, standard or body by the actions of one person, or by ones personal...
Paramedics in Israel can carry FFP, artificial plasma products and tranexamic acid
some flight paramedics in Australia (esp. Melbourne) can carry FFP & RBC's / O- neg transfusions/
Case Series:
A care provider accidentally administers an Epipen containing 300ug to thier own thumb/ digit whilst trying to figure out how to administer to a patient.
Immediate effects are:
Local Vasoconstriction
Loss of circulation/ adequate perfusion with a cap refill >4 seconds...
many possibilities,
try looking at disseminating intravascular coagulopathy 'DIC' it sucks and basically means end game if it progresses far enough to mean blood in the tube.
or pulmonary contusion, massive airway trauma.etc
See THIS is what i've been trying to convince folks to do for ages!!
I mean, its not like we in EMS don't have the training or education! and we sure as hell have the money!!
why just limit yourselves to appendectomies? people, this is the age of revolutions in EMS!
I'm thinking we...
agreed,
this guy had one chance and one chance only:
an ER doc (scott weingart) was walking past and did an open clamshell thoracotomy there and then as well as a surgical airway... even then his chances suck...
CPR is useless in traumatic arrest,
compressing a chest with shredded vessels/...
in Australia EMT doesn't really exist.
there are certificate 4 courses that teach basic skills + cannulation and supraglotic airways that are considered an 'EMT' or rather industrial medic.
on Australia ambulances, we ONLY have highly qualified and educated professional paramedics.
if you...

been working in ems 3 years, still consider myself a total probie
Never be afraid to asks questions afterwards
Know when not to talk
Being polite and courteous will always pay off in the long run
Find a mentor who will support and teach you what you need to learn, not what you want...
on a similar train of thought, im of the opinion that almost everything in urban EMS can be improvised/ done without for the first few minutes until backup arrives
you need gloves, trauma shears and pharmaceuticals.
everything else can be improv'ed from the environment around you or can...
Theoretical question for the wise ones out there:
You have a pt. who is in extremis and you need access To admin fluid and meds.
Problem is,
1. They are undergoing dialysis and your chances of getting an IV in are about the same as dispatch giving you an extra meal break, 0%.
2. They have...
Thank you- very helpful, wasnt aware they had nurses do ems, do you know if they do any extra training for it? :D
if there is anything else u know, would love to hear it :)
not familiar with that particular breed - theyre not in the DSMIV but hey, wouldn't be the first time ^_^
Another favourite:
Pt: "i feel sick, can i have a panadol*?"
What i want to say: "yes, yes you can, the pharmacy is that way..." :P
(*panadol is the aussie name for acetaminophen/...
wow thanx!!!!, i didnt think of that :P - unfortunately, google actually has minimal to no actual info on the subject :( hoping somebody has contacts or experience??
Anyone have any knowledge or experience with/ about pre-hospital care or Ems in Fiji, cant find any info in the web?
Info would be really appreciated.
Thanks.
