    Adventures in Learning ECG Interpretation

Dubin is the worst. So bad. The WORST! In paramedic school, I read through Dubin cover to cover and still had absolutely no clue about anything. And I’m really good at book learning. This is to say that you shouldn’t feel bad. The problem is the book, not you. Probably. Check out Tom...

When do you use bvm & Nonrebreather?

I remember stealing a connector piece from the ED at some point to be able to hook up our BVM to whatever brand of CPAP we used. Don't think I ever actually used it though.

When do you use bvm & Nonrebreather?

I still remember call I did early on in my career: Respond for the 80yo with SOB. She's tripodding in the kitchen, 1-word answers, but hey, she doesn't look like she's in thaaaaaaat much distress... We throw a NRB on her and carry her out to the truck. By the time we put her in the back, she...

Question on EMS college degree vs Paramedic certification

FWIW many medical schools turn up their noses at online courses, and I would guess PA schools are the same way. Also, your Associate program will likely default to putting you into dumbed down science courses. Make sure the classes you are taking satisfy PA school requirements if you want to...

    Test Prep

I used it when I was studying for NREMT-P. It was mediocre, but good enough, I thought. Not as good as JB Learning, but also costs much less.

Question on EMS college degree vs Paramedic certification

From your signature it looks like you have some military background - is Uncle Sam going to be paying for this? If so, you want to be very careful about how use that money to make sure you get the most of it.

    Narcan and pulseless electrical activity

Answer the poll you lummoxes - I'm all alone up there! I'm in the "Give it after we start CPR" camp. Our top priorities are compressions > ventilation > monitor/shock? > ACLS drugs. But once we've gotten all of that sorted out and we're going through H's and T's, Narcan seems to have big...

    NREMT P Static cardiology?

Why do you have to retake? Did they fail you specifically because of how you treated a stable SVT? I'm having a hard time deciphering what these algorithms mean. Are they both for treating stable SVT? If I interpret your school algorithm correctly, I think it's bad. You probably should not...

Need Help - Failed NREMT-Advanced Three Times

What are your weak areas? Make flash cards with facts about those and review them every day. I like the free program Anki: https://apps.ankiweb.net/ Every practice question you do, make flash cards about the things you don't understand. If you don't understand something, look it up and make...

    70Y/O Male Dizzy/Lightheaded/Syncope

I'd check a manual BP... 120/80 -> 140/90? Iiiiiiii don't believe it. Automatic cuffs I've used often have a hard time when the HR gets really low, and if the cuff is mis-sized you can get a false reading too. It would be interesting to know how recent that MI+stent was.

    Obstructed Airway Question

I got to do one on a cadaver and it was surprisingly easy. I feel like as long as you stay midline you probably can't really screw it up too badly. If you hit the thyroid cartilage just move down a bit and keep trying.

    Prepping for Paramedic

No notes. Only Anki. https://apps.ankiweb.net/ I never will forget the day in medic class, we were learning about different ways people die I guess. Burning, electrocution... Teacher advances to a slide that says "Drowning: death by being submerged in water" or something like that. I looked...

    Debatable 12 lead

Does the patient know anything about his cardiac history? When did the pain start / how long has it been going on for? Any other recent similar episodes? Vitals? Looks like a clear RBBB to me... maybe with either an old or developing infarct. I think if the patient doesn't recognize the...
