Have a better interview. Some thoughts...

As someone who's served on more than one oral board, let me add my $.01 (adjusted for inflation). -Dress professionally. If you wonder if you should wear a suit, do it. Hell, rent one from a tux shop (ask for a "dark funeral suit") if you don't own one. Looking like a million dollars will...

Completely green EMT-B (seattle) in need of a little guidance

A couple things... As Rob said, this area sucks for EMTs. If you're not entirely committed to Seattle, broaden your horizons. I was offered a spot in Colorado but ended up turning it down due to the lousy wages. A classmate from EMT took a spot in a shipyard as a Medical Coordinator, but I...

MyClyns First Response Personal Protection Spray

Last time I got spit on, it was during the arrest of a Hep-C, HIV positive assault suspect. After dealing with the med surveillance folks and hospital staff weekly for months, I've come to the conclusion it'd just be easier to boil my head post-exposure in the future. ETA- necropost, sorry.

Does everyone on this site want to get into FDNY?

Try being trapped 12 hours in a car on Wednesday day shift with a partner who attended dispatch's "Taco Tuesday" party the night before (read that any way you want).

    Patients trying to add you

What's this Facebook thing? My version of "social networking" consists of calling people on a phone or talking to them in person. This whole Internet boondoggle is a passing fancy anyways; CW is where it's at.

ems sticker in your car window?

Must be nice to have that kind of money...I could think of a million things that I'd spend it on, and none of those seem to make the list. Oh, I have a small first aid kit in my car, with some quikclot even, but that's for hunting season or the range. Had it years before EMT class.

ems sticker in your car window?

My post was more in reference to things like the Leatherman tool thread ("Whackers rejoice") and the like. The only type of whackers/wackers I've been familiar with are the type I mentioned earlier, the cop wannabes. Calling people whackers/wackers for having an EMS sticker on their car or...

Does everyone on this site want to get into FDNY?

No thanks. Not only am I on the wrong coast, but big cities make me nauseous. I'd rather vollie for a small, rural FD that also does EMS, and continue paid work at my other pursuits.

ems sticker in your car window?

Where I live, the term whacker is used to describe these morons with the retired Ford Crown Victorias that they outfit with push bumpers, spotlights, heavy tint, superfluous antennas, and usually Law Enforcement Memorial license plates. They may push a forklift in a warehouse for minimum wage...

ems sticker in your car window?

I have a small Star of Life sticker and one for an unrelated fraternal organization. I also have a Leatherman somewhere in the hellhole that is my trunk. Guess I'm a wacker.

    The right words

No apologies necessary; I've had a long week and let my emotions dictate my response, and for that, I apologize.

Anyone able to answer some questions about Academi?

Send me a private message; I was with them 2 years, so I'll see what I can answer.

    The right words

Yes, thanks. If you seriously believe that, you need to go and re-read what I wrote. Do I think situations like this are funny? No. Do I laugh at people's grief purposely? No. Is it some sort of weird psychological response that I need to work on? Yes. Apparently this was...

    The right words

I guess the question that comes to mind for me is something like "how does one notify when they know they can't"? Explanation- in my former career I had to do many death notifications, and over the years I developed a slight issue with it- uncontrolled laughter. Along the lines of "I'm...

    Lifetek, Tacoma WA?

Hi all, just a quick question here. Does anyone have any training experience through a company call Lifetek here in Washington State? I searched through old threads but cannot locate any info. Considering doing PHTLS through them in July, partly for the resume addition but mostly because it...

    Yet another new guy's intro

Hi all! New guy here, Stoked is the handle. I'm a pretty freshly minted EMT-B from Western Washington state, looking to expand on my knowledge base and grow. A little about me: I'm an old fart, rapidly approaching 40. I've been through a lot of jobs in my life (I have self-diagnosed...
