    Ambulance accident

Yeah that percentage increases dramatically when you get over 65 too. Last time we did a geriatric training session I think they said pelvic fractures have about a 90 percent mortality rate and that's generally within the first year after the injury.

    Ambulance accident

Well, since I'm only a basic, what I can do for her won't do a whole lot of good for very long. But there are a few things I can do. First, get an ALS provider over to help with the IV she's gonna need and the possible punctured lung / pnumothorax / hemo going on. Let's see. C-collar...

How many lights is too many?

I wholeheartedly agree. We certainly don't want NON professionals driving around with lights and sirens. Oh, but wait, we don't have non - professionals doing that anyway. Let's see. My definition of an 'emergency unit' is a motor vehicle with lights and sirens driven by a public safety...

    Ambulance accident

Wow. That's interesting. I have actually never heard that before. I'd always been taught that priapism, while can be cause by medical illnesses, that's clearly not the case here, so we should suspect either spinal cord injury or head trauma. I've actually never heard pelvic injury as a cause...

    Ambulance accident

Well, the red tag guy you mentioned earlier said seat belt signs and priapism. So I'm gonna guess possible internal bleeding into the abdomen, right leg tig / fib fractures AND spinal cord injury. I wouldn't place any bets on this guy surviving for very long. If I remember from my classes /...

    Ambulance accident

Wow. I'm three days late on this one so lemme back up a couple of steps. If this happened to ME in one of our rigs I'd have to treat this as a mass casualty incident considering we only have TWO ambulances. Which would, make me the incident commander until further notice. Noting that I'd...

    Quit smoking ideas

Way to go!! I'm still on the Chantix. Today is day 83 according to their support web site http://getquit.com and I'm still doing ok. I actually had my first DREAM of smoking a cigarette the other night. That was a wierd experience. Still not sure if I'm ready or willing to quit. I still...

Whats your 2nd job if you have one?

You know, I probably should add that I'm now doing a third job. Well, not really, but I have been so bored at my first job doing computers that I opened a cafepress store at http://cafepress.com/wolfwyndd in the hopes that I might make a little money at it. Anyone else doing the cafepress thing?

    Was anyone else like this?

Unfortunately, in the area I run in, 95 percent of the area is FIRE based EMS. IE, they run an ambulance out of whatever fire station covers that jurisdiction. All the ones I've contacted want you to be FIRE first and THEN EMT. My heart is mostly in EMS though. For the moment, I'm lucky in...

Whats your 2nd job if you have one?

**laugh** In reality, my EMT job is my part time, second job. My full time job is working for the Victoria's Secret Direct call center supporting their desktops. IE, PC's AND phone system.

How many lights is too many?

I can't speak about Allstate, but that was one of the questions I had for my State Farm agent before I signed my policy with them. IE, if I'm in an accident while going to a call with L/S. He said he inquired for me and said, basically, as long as I'm driving with 'due regard' for public...

Hypothermia, How cold is too cold?

I was taught in my EMT class several years ago, and have heard in hypothermian CE training that someone's core tempature can drop to about 85 degrees and then can be warmed up and survive. Now what kinda functions they are still going to have after something like that is anyone's guess.

Lights And Pov's And Jump Kits, Oh My!

Personally, I'd be considerably more interested in patient care, or at least MY patient's care, if I actually knew WTF was wrong with them or their outcome after they got to the hospital. For me about all I do is glorified taxi service it seems like. Even on a GOOD call (medical or trauma)...

Don't cut off a fire truck... it will win.

Glad no one was SERIOUSLY hurt. Any idea what happened / will happen to the driver of the fire truck? Depending on how the accident went down, if there is ANY doubt in fault, it could end the FF's career.

    MA State Police Ambulance

Ok, I fixed this part. I read all the comments and to me, it sounds like a big pissing contest between OEMS and the SP. Personally, I don't care WHAT color lights are on the rig or what color the ambulance is when it comes to pick me up in my time of need, as long as it DOES come pick me up in...
