    Atrovent for Pediatrics

It probably helped because kids are so prone to excess vagal tone; as atrovent only reverses vagally-mediated Bronchospasm.

    SoluMedrol in pneumonia pts?

See, that's the slippery slope with infections and steroids. In some cases, steroids coadministered with antibiotics are HIGHLY recommended as soon as possible, (meningitis) even before ancillary testing or spinal taps are performed. As with any respiratory illness, we focus on -Inflammation...

    Military medics using stethoscopes.

What a lot of people don't factor in is that a medic attatched to any forward unit (I.e combat arms) is essentialy the primary care provider for those guys. So without even going into auscultation in austere settings, the sheer volume of miscellaneous medical care that they provide (including...

    Wound Packing

Regular kerlix is 80% as effective as hemostatic gauze. Also consider that if the ENTRANCE is high inquinal, theres a good chance that the wound tracked into the pelvis. Not saying it does no good to pack it, but if you're gonna do it, don't do it half a$$ed. Either pack it or dont...

Army EMS requires units to provide refresher training to not only maintain NREMT but the PMOS qualification. You can complete these at the approved training sites, or the MSTC at the closest post. You also get payed to go, even if you go more than you're required.

    "Don't read the book"

It boils down to this: what you do in a book scenario and what you do in the back of a truck don't always coincide. No matter how much "street" advice you get, you still need to pass that test. And even though the EMT book can get a little bland, oversimplified, and narrow, its all you got...

    How much Fentanyl

I've juiced some dudes up pretty good with opiates. The lowest end of the respiratory scale ive seen is returning to normal respitations. When people are in severe pain, respiratory side effects rarely occur IF you titrate it. That's the whole deal, you need to titrate all of this stuff.

    Etomidate ---> Jaw clenching? Coincidence?

Only if the burn is greater than 24 hours old. Getting an airway takes precedence over MAYBE (or not at all with a new burn) raising their serum potassium by .5 meq/ml

    the 100% directionless thread

Low "renal" dose dopamine has been called into question, that's true. As a blanket statement, its difficult to say that it would work for every patient in renal failure. However, i have used it with good results in burnt children, in conjunction with other therapy. One kid in particular...

    First Football Detail! Any tips?

Athletic trainers are way more trained than paramedics on ortho stuff. It's their job. They're like mini-physical therapists.

    First Football Detail! Any tips?

Ah, yes. A true pearl of wisdom. If you get bored, you could talk to the trainers if they're not busy and learn some ortho stuff. Often times, you can determine an injury with history and your bare hands.
