    PulsePoint

Used in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Got a CPR alert in Vegas visiting, casino medics already on it. Got an alert at my 2nd job in LA down the street, found a guy overdosed in the McDonalds bathroom. Kept his airway open and provided rescue breaths for about 30 seconds until FD showed up...

    Masks post COVID-19

Yup, walked into a hospital to transfer a patient for Covid Pneumonia with hypoxia and a 104 fever and the patient was on 6L via NC satting at 90, 27-30 bpm, waveform not so great. Asked him how his breathing was, he said "terrible". Breathing treatment already done by staff before we arrived...

    Masks post COVID-19

If we are fully vaccinated, we don't have to wear masks inside our stations or ambulances unless there is a patient on board. All hospitals so far in Southern California that we visit have not relaxed any mask requirements. I found 2 boxes of a good KN95 mask that fits great, so I usually wear...

"ICU Level Care on the Street" Salt Lake City Program going to put Doctors on ambulances

Agreed but if you are in Los Angeles, a lot of these hospitals that are close by are more like band aid stations. We had a Dr intubate a pt because he was saturating at 94%. Yup, you read that correct.

"ICU Level Care on the Street" Salt Lake City Program going to put Doctors on ambulances

Doesn't help when the homeless population is increasing and LAFD only has 2-3 advanced practioners on the road during business hours. This Dr. program sounds like what the UK has been doing for years

What Ems charting system do you use?

ImageTrend and I love it. Easy to use, easy to learn and a lot of customization is available per our training department.

    Asymptomatic hypotension?

As many have said, definitely questioning a code 3 response. Practically everything in LA here is code 3 transport. We held the wall the other day and LAFD comes blaring in the ER bay at 2AM with a homeless man C/C can't poop, nothing else acutely wrong, no treatments given. My buddy who works...

Two leg amputations after 'incomplete' assessment by paramedic

I Oh I get it but the fact that that’s standard practice is ****ty. Sometimes a simple heartfelt apology from a government entity or employee is enough to avoid a hefty lawsuit

Why are we still interpreting cardiac rhythms?

Troponin leak from kidney issues, fluid overload or missed dialysis. Yeah bud, never required a stemi/heart center/cath lab to fix those for my dad.

Two leg amputations after 'incomplete' assessment by paramedic

The paramedic wrote the man a written apology? That would almost never happen in the US

Why are we still interpreting cardiac rhythms?

I can't tell you the amount of times my father's trops were high from missing dialysis and fluid overload. He never went to a cardiac center to fix it.

    different CCT programs in Socal?

PRN Ambulance in LA. Nurses make $46/hr plus $9/hr more if you do night shifts. 10-11hr shifts, per diem available. Mainly Kaiser contract, good amount of code 3's going from Kaisers to trauma/neuro/stroke/stemi. Also get the normal vent dr appointments, etc

Rapid Deterioration: Altered and Difficulty Breathing

I was thinking that and/or he threw a stroke but the BP and hx doesn’t realy support that.

Rapid Deterioration: Altered and Difficulty Breathing

I work part-time for an IFT company. I mainly do ALS and CCT shifts were we actually get a bunch of emergency transfers but yea, still not 911 lol. Our RN called out so we were moved to a BLS rig. Got dispatched for a discharge from ER to home. 73yo chief complaint of chest pain. Hx of back...

    Open Tib/Fib Splint

Thanks! CMS was intact, equal bilateral pulses juat painful and controlled bleeding with gauze. I was just a bit worried because the guys that responded first were EMR’s and ALS with pain meds was 45+min out and no way to get him out without meds. I’ve Always heard split in position found unless...

Off dury going dirtbike riding and we encounter a 15yo male who fell off his dirtbike. Only complaint is right lower leg pain. Got consent from him and mom to help and cut the pant leg to discover a open tib fib fracture. 911 was called but they were going to be 15-20min so we controlled the...

Who carries a med kit in their vehicle off-duty?

I carry a MyMedic kit, an AED and fire extinguisher. But I use the AED to help train other staff in my 2nd job as a cpr/fa instructor and we have many locations, so it's easier keeping it in my car. Never had to use it and don't want to but I will if needed. Had to use some supplies over the...

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

Just throwing out a question because I thought it would be interesting: Is there any benefit or purpose of getting vaccines from both companies? I think we are scheduling our staff in 2 weeks

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

No problem at all, I love conversations. I have confidence in technology and science, but not 100% enough to be the first in line to get it. Our workplace hasn't even gotten the vaccine yet so by the time we are to get it (priority before the public but probably not first) it might be one/two...
