    Hours

I have two jobs. Work 24/48 at my full time job. Not sure about the part time job yet as I start next Monday. I'm guessing that I will probably work 1-2 days a week, 12 hour shifts at the part time job. Commute time is also an issue - 10-15 minutes to my full time job, 1.5+ hours to my part...

    Georgia State Emt Licence

By the way, are you a B or an I? A lot of services in GA will not hire B's. Just FYI.

    Georgia State Emt Licence

I'm not sure how long it takes for reciprocity, but it only took a week or two for both my EMT and paramedic license in GA. I would guess that reciprocity would take a little longer though. Maybe expect a couple weeks to a month? Call the state office and ask.

Anyone know where I can find maternity pants?

A girl who works with me has a six month old and I think that's what she ended up doing. I'll ask her the next time I see her. She worked up until about four weeks before her baby was born, so she wasn't exactly tiny. lol Congrats!!

The improper incorrect thread: what do you do that's not in the protocols but WORKS?

I agree with you. I had a STEMI patient not too long ago that was given 3 SL NTG by his wife prior to EMS arrival. BP was 70/30 when we arrived. 12 lead showed ST elevation in II, III and AVF and depression in several of the V leads. BP came up after a fluid bolus (I think 300 cc brought it...

Woman kills 3 week old baby, eats it

That "someone with a mental issue" could be a very short step away from being a murderer. (I left out the "cold blooded" part because I don't think someone who murders while in a state of psychosis qualifies as a cold blooded murderer.)

What kinda car do you drive?

Thanks! Yes, both cars have the little flower vase. His is currently empty, as is mine. I had daisies, but I have no idea where they went. We emptied the car before it went to the shop. I need to get some new ones...

With the large influx of EMT's....

My class started with 18, added 1 after first semester and lost 2 after second semester. Graduated 17 and so far only 1 has failed NR. She retested and passed. I think there are a couple who haven't tested yet, but so far my instructor has only had a handful of students fail registry or the...

just got a job at Grady in Atlanta

I did the tests on July 20th and I'm supposed to start on August 17th...I'm excited!! I'm going to work part time at Grady and remain at my full time EMS job for now, until we can afford to move to Atlanta. Or I might do Grady full time after the beginning of the year and work part time at my...

What kinda car do you drive?

Mine is the orange one. My husband drives the silver one. Both are 5 speeds. Orange is a 2002, silver is a 2000. Mine is a limited edition color concept - meaning it has two-toned leather seats (black and orange), orange accents on all the interior surfaces, the wheels with orange accents...

    Titration for normal saline

I have infused 1200 cc in 15 minutes with an 18 gauge and a 20 gauge. But that pt was hyperglycemic, not trauma. I agree with the permissive hypotension suggestions. Unless you have crazy long transport times to any hospital, you're probably not going to need that much fluid. Just run in...

    Socialism

It may be illegal or whatever you want to call it, but I'd rather see someone who is working and just happens to be in this country illegally receiving benefits from the government than someone who was born and raised here sitting on his/her butt and collecting benefits because they are just too...

    Socialism

Those jobs that don't offer health insurance benefits are not always bad jobs or even low paying jobs. They may be small businesses that can't afford to offer benefits to their employees. There isn't always a cut and dried solution to these problems. Perhaps they should just marry someone who...

What does diversion mean to you?

We have two types of diversion - in-county and out-of-county. In-county means they try to divert everything possible. Out-of-county means they only try to divert anything coming in from another county. BUT if a patient requests to come to that facility, they can't turn them away. They can't...

    Re: Scholarships for Paramedics

Boundtree Medical has a scholarship program for anyone whose parent or legal guardian was/is actively involved in EMS. You must be pursuing EMT or paramedic education. I can't remember the specific guidelines, but you have to write a short essay. I won a scholarship from them last year for $325.

    Socialism

Without even considering immigrants, what about people who work at jobs that don't offer healthcare? My husband is a producer at a tv studio but he isn't offered healthcare through his job. Tying healthcare to jobs is a mistake. Tying healthcare to big business is a mistake. I don't know how...
