The real story behind the 12 week medic McCook NE

Fair one, mate. I guess it is different here in the EU where paramedics have a career. Irish Paramedics make €35k and Advanced Paramedics make €55k. In the UK it is a bit lower but still able to live well and buy a home and car. A lot of UK paramedics are choosing to quite the NHS and...

The real story behind the 12 week medic McCook NE

So why attack the 12 week course? Why not change the minimum requirement? Are these 12 week wonders not getting jobs? Aren't these newby medics working under a senior medic for the first 120 hours anyway? Military medics get the very basic fighting skills and medical skills to be...

The real story behind the 12 week medic McCook NE

Hi Chaz and Tim, I agreed completely. Minimum is not the best option. In the UK Ambulance Technicians have to have 750 hours of clinical placements. The followon Paramedic programme also requires 750 hours. Therefore UK Paramedics have at least 1500 hours and two years of training...

Liability for EMT-B Without Medical Direction

I heard that in Ireland they have EMT practitioner licenses. They can respond anywhere in Ireland without medical direction. I don't know if they can use the cardiac drugs without it but they do have practitioner rights. In the UK paramedics are practitioners. Sure they have medical doctors...

The real story behind the 12 week medic McCook NE

+1 The bottom line is that they are getting to sit the NREMT exam isn't it? Sure the Medic 1 paramedics in Seattle will have a much better programme but they sit the NREMT exam too don't they? I wouldn't choose to do a 12 week programme myself but then again I am far too lazy to not have...

    Paracetamol with Ibuprofen

Or Tylenol with Ibuprofen for those of you over on the other side of the pond... Have heard really good results with 1 gram of Paracetamol with 400mg of Ibuprofen for minor pain. Have used this in operational medicine for minor blisters, dental pain, headaches or post suturing. It seems...

    AEMT challenge during medic school

I heard that PERCOM will let you challenge their P1 course and go directly into the second half of their NREMT Paramedic course.

Is Merit Training a good choice?

The Industry Paramedic is a new course but there are graduates working in the industry. Most seem to go for the Iraq/Afghan roles. The important point is their academic backing. Their website says that they are getting UK university backing which allows you to use their paramedic course to...

Only 1 ER and 1 ride along shift?

If I remember correctly it was 16 hours in ER and ambulance observational only. That was in the early 90s in Washington. Things may have changed a bit.

    Mt Nebo training?

I would suggest that you get your EMT-B then upgrade with your WFR. You will be able to get your WEMT that way. Good advice with going with a training provider that is an affiliate with WMS. That is the golden standard.
