i have no idea where you are but in new jersey im making 13per hour with a transport/emergency company. and i volunteer on my town rescue squad.

the anxiety goes away. over time you just see it so much and have gained so much information about things you just do it.

i can agree that the transport EMTs may be a bit out of practice cause they really dont see emergencies. but most of us do both our town 911 and a transport service for money. there are a few on the transport company that only do transports and have never been on a REAL rig during a 911 call...

dispatched priority 2 ( no lights or sirens) to a nursing home for a woman that was described to the dispatcher as twitching on and off for the past hour. I radioed back and asked if she was seizing. dispatch said the nurses said no. fine. i go priority 2 and take my time. 30 seconds later...

we dont carry radios. just pagers. we call inservice when we get in the rig.
