    first code

anna pretty much said it all. the first one the hardest part is the unknown so following directions is the key. once you've had one you have more of a feel for how they are going to go. i'd also try and work out before hand with your partner what each of you is going to do so you're not...

    Pharmacology Books?

we used Brady's Prehospital Emergency Pharmacology by Bryan Bledsoe and Dwayne Clayden. it was quite good and easy to follow but also seemed to give a lot of information. another thing you might want to look into is a drug consult. ours is Mosby's Drug Consult, which also has a lot of useful...

    blood glucose levels...

here an emt-b can use a glucometer but it is not required. it's up to the stations if they want to carry them on their units and many do not. for the most part it is an als skill, which is sad because it is quite easy to use.

    Sinus Tach or SVT

wouldn't atrial rhythms (those generated from irritable sites in the atria other than the SA node) also have a different looking p-wave? notched, diphasic, pointed were a few mentioned in our book. so even at that rate would you be able to differentiate if it was sinus tach or atrial tach? or...

    Live sticks

i think it's more the principle. we were told that we would have to do that in the orientation meeting even before we signed up for the class. after all we are going to be sticking pts, so it seems a bit wrong to want to practice on someone but not be willing to be practiced on yourself...

    Live sticks

wow that's nice. we didn't have a choice. we have three people in our class who pass out when they get stuck with needles so the instructors just brought in a stretcher and made them lay down on it when it was their turn

    Med. memorization

note cards worked well for me, both writing them up and then reviewing. working with someone is good too. take turns quizzing each other. some of us made study groups and that worked out really well. best luck!

    Latex Allergy

we use mostly latex free here as well. i'm latex sensitive and was basically told to stay away from it whenever and wherever possible. several people i know have developed allergies to latex after working in the medical field for years. i guess it's not that uncommon =/

    Live sticks

the arm usually has a bag attached that is filled with red coloured water in it. so the veins are full of red water. when you stick the vein, if done properly you'll get a flash just like on real pts. it is fallible though, depending on the age of the arm and how much water they got in...
