More temp jobs than I care to reimagine. Was also a machinist for a handful of years off and on.

    Grad Degrees

This is kinda what I was asking. Good to know, and I’d have to agree that they’re more than likely better off for it because of their formal education, as is the service area.

For sure. Not a knock on fire vs EMS. Truthfully it seems oddly individualized, the pursuit of higher education outside of nursing that basically mandates this. But then, I hear the nurse crowd going on about the educational machine that are the nursing institutions. Just wondered. I do know the...

    Grad Degrees

In your opinion, is there a difference in this department overall be suppression or medical with services delivered in comparison to what the norm is, or considered to be, in the fire service?

    Grad Degrees

Out of sheer curiosity: Are degree-pursuers more prevalent in the fire service other than dudes looking to promote up or out like you all, or is it like EMS where you usually don’t meet people like this other than on these forums, SM, and/ or conferences?

    Grad Degrees

Yes. Prior to exploring undergrad programs I did some research on my A.S. Unfortunately because I was tied to a vocational program I couldn’t seem to find one that would allow me this option. It worked out in the end, but still, it’s pretty sad how even paramedics (I know of) who went to a J.C...

    HEMS providers working in ED/Hospital

While our “HBS” program didn’t have us help out in the hospital, we were expected to staff an ambulance in our 911 system anytime we were OOS, be it weather, maintenance, or staffing. As was a program the next county over. Both were absorbed and turned into programs where this is no longer the...

    HEMS providers working in ED/Hospital

I mean, it’s a noble idea. I just don’t know anyone firsthand whose program is attached to the hospital this way. If it works, it works. Volunteering is always preferred over voluntelling, especially in a busier program.

It sounds like you’re at a true hospital-based service, or an HBS. My previous employer was an HBS in name only. Currently my program is not one, though our company has their share of HBS partners still around. All of this to ask: Are you on 12’s or a full 24 hour schedule? It does sound...

    Grad Degrees

I realize that this thread was initially about graduate degrees, but since since the higher education in EMS came up inevitably as it often seems to, this seemed relevant: https://www.jems.com/training/to-degree-or-not-to-degree-the-paramedic-question/

Maybe not. What with the Dodgers spent on expanding their roster this offseason I cringe to think what they’ll charge a family of 6.

I think as usual you missed the point entirely and want to argue just for arguments sake. I don’t think I once said anything about a degree making a paramedic a better paramedic. The benchmark to a profession everyone thinks they are entitled to now to include wages isn’t in a vocation. That is...

    Grad Degrees

I think this is a huge part of why we will “never get ahead”. If the current educational model was scrapped in favor of a degree requirement it would force many out of the industry, which is a big part of what many anti-degree requirement EMS folks cite. Honestly, why is that a bad thing? We’re...

    AEL Oklahoma Helicopter down

Absolutely. Our base pilots are good about briefing migratory patterns and trends in our area. And also with the amount of reservoirs, lakes, riverbeds, and increase in rain water we’ve found ourselves extra vigilant since we dug ourselves out of the drought here we’ve seen some increased bird...
