    IFT non-emergency industry issues

Not paying would result in not being picked up anymore! And I bet patients complain about the quality, but the companies don't care. A satisfied patient pays just as much as one that isn't satisfied, and most facilities are contracted. Sure, patients can request a different IFT company, but...

    The Good, Bad and Ugly

I've called in, "Metro Hospital, this is Medic 123. Trauma Alert for a Trauma Arrest, CPR in progress with BVM, trying to establish a line, see you in the trauma bay in 10!" My partner's reply was, "Well, that certainly was efficient!"

I should be a bit more clear there--the law give you certain protections when off the clock, but it's not a carte blanche

As it was explained to me a few months ago when I made the same typo, it's a female, Mexican, hippopotamus. But to the OP's point, what you do outside of work, if not regulated by the law, can in fact be regulated by your employer.

    IFT non-emergency industry issues

There is an over supply of IFT's here. And it would be something that cracks down on them for fraudulent billing. We have had so many companies being hit for fraud lately that I think we'll eventually not have the over supply anymore as they fold and crumble.

    Skull fracture

Well I've only taken the introductory radiology classes, but I would venture to confirm that there is in fact a skull fracture there... And yes, very, very carefully. Or you could ju9st print him a new one with a 3D printer...

    Total newb, introduction.

I looked at their site, and you might do well in the accelerated course especially if you have a college degree. Like I said, I did mine in 4 weeks and it was no biggie. That came out to about 17 days of class 8-5 and 1 day of clinicals/ride-alongs (16 hours I think?), 1 day of State of Ohio...

Do the volunteer departments pay a stipend at all? To help cover costs? Or at least pay for uniforms (if they have them)? That's actually kind of funny. I know a lot of full time departments here won't pay for medic, but I know most of the volunteer departments will. Or at least pay for EMT.

Hmmm... no idea why it's not liking my tabs to align things. Anyone got any ideas as to how to post this in a more readable form?

    Most Common Medications

I'll post a cheat sheet here that we use for medical school. Remember that only the generic names follow the pattern, but most meds (on their med list or on their bottle) have the generic names. Suffix Class Example AFIL...

Hi Katie! Welcome to the forums! I would definitely recommend small steps first. Go do some ride-alongs to see what the job really is like. It seems that you have a realistic expectation of the job already so that is good, but I would say 70% of my runs, or more are BS runs that are...

    ambulance driver without emt license

The state minimum is 1 EMR and 1 EMT for a transporting vehicle, but in rural areas a lot of the times our departments will want 2 people in the back still just for hands purposes so anyone else can drive. Well at least according to the law. Once the staffing minimum is met, anybody else can...

    Keeping current on EMS knowledge

I used to go to school a loooooong ways away from where I volunteered. I kept the minimum requirements to stay active, but this could mean nearly 6 moths would go by without me taking a run. When I got back, I always cracked open the text for some of those things that we don't see that often...

Do you need a medical director for a standby service

If you are doing EMS, then you need a medical director. But if you are doing First Aid with EMTs, you do not. The difference, at least in my parts, is that if you are doing first aid, then you cannot respond to places--the people have to come to you. I know some counties have some sort of...

    Recertification Timeline

Wow, it came in the mail yesterday (well it could have come the day before but I forgot to grab the mail that day!) Does this mean that I'm also most likely not going to be audited? Because while I have the CEs and I easily have the CE hours (I'm in med school and have hundreds of hours...

    ambulance driver without emt license

Well yes--I can't imagine any department nowadays that would let you drive without having a EVOC passed first! But we still take "drivers" at my service. It's rural, and while we require them to be EMTs, a lot of them haven't done any patient care in a decade or longer. They just want to...

    Recertification Timeline

Wow, thanks for forgetting about those of us who work in south central ohio! There are entire counties here that don't have a single paramedic in them! And yes, my state card doesn't expire for another year or two, but someone said that since I use NR to recert for Ohio, I have to keep NR...
