Still amazes me that every ambulance made does not have the ability to lock the steering wheel with the ambulance running. Would have thought it would be a requirement by now.
I used to have a remote start that would shut off the engine if you stepped on the brake without the key in the run posiition. No idea why something like that couldn't be implemented.

We have had this in ambulances since the early 2000s... the only reason it isn't mandatory is there is no consequence for ambulance companies not having them. It's viewed as an optional cost that many places feel they don't need.
Now, if insurance companies started to reject claims from damaged ambulances that had been stolen, because they were foreseeable and preventable, or EMS leaders being terminated or charged with civil negligence for not implementing these basic controls, I bet you would start seeing all of these ambulances coming with kill switches as standard features.

NYS has passed new regulations that go into effect later this year that include anti-theft requirements (other than ignition key or fob) for ambulances and fly cars. So, at least one state is starting to require this.
