Not really a calling, just something to do while in college but it's been fun thus far so I'm not complaining about my decision ^_^ Plus the nursing school I plan on applying for is a stickler for healthcare experience.

I witnessed some ER nurses knock a patient's BP down from 130/Something to 30/15 because they apparently applied nitro paste and forgot about it. She was darn near circulatory collapse by the time anybody thought to check on her. Talk about close calls. :glare:

Taking pictures of scenes isn't my cup of tea but I don't see a problem with other people doing it as long as the pictures aren't of anything that could reveal the identity of the patient. Do I think it's trashy to snap pictures of blood soaked MVA scenes to show your friends? Kind of. But it...

It's a shame that he thought he needed to fluff up his achievements to impress people because he really seemed to know his stuff. Maybe he thought people wouldn't take him seriously if he revealed that he was only an EMT-IV? Who knows.

I was taught that BP, HR, RR, and SPO2 was all that needed to be checked in most patients and that all other vitals were to be checked if the patient's condition/history called for it. For example, I probably wouldn't check blood glucose unless the patient had a history of diabetes mellitus or...

I had my first interview and it went pretty well. Anyways, I was told that I should hear something by the end of the week and have yet to be contacted by anyone. Would it be wise to call them up or should I take a hint and start looking elsewhere?

Nurses didn't get where they are today by resisting any and all attempts to raise education standards. I agree that education needs to come before expanding the SOP. I've come across paramedics who could barely even write coherent sentences, let alone explain the most basic of pathophysiology...

The national registry exam is one of things where you either know the information or you don't and cramming really isn't going to help with your performance on it. Good luck though!
