Nurse/home heatlh on scene becoming an issue

Most of the arguments against me having even an iota of value in a non-emergency environment are also valid against someone that is a CNA. (Such as administering medications, managing a bone fracture and so on.)

Nurse/home heatlh on scene becoming an issue

It was far from panic, we just didn't spend an hour on scene playing house with home health. I'm glad to hear that you're never wrong. But we are fortunately not as confident in our diagnostic abilities. Now if I had some CT scan goggles or something it might be a different story. Even...

So I suppose you are saying CNA's also do not fit into non-emergent, non-acute care?

Nurse/home heatlh on scene becoming an issue

Probably over 9,000... times a day. If you took everyone out of a hospital or a nursing home that does not administer medication do you think that it would be just as efficient? If you want to say that an EMT serves no purpose in a non-emergency environment then say it.

Nurse/home heatlh on scene becoming an issue

Yes of course I don't work in long term care. But to say that I am totally useless in non-emergent situations is wrong in my opinion. Here our transport times can be well over an hour, on top of that all of our IFTs are anywhere from 1-6 hours one way. Not every person we take is critical, why...

Where do you draw the line for non-acute, non-emergent? As an EMT are you useless unless someone is coding? I have no other formal training aside from my EMT.

Nurse/home heatlh on scene becoming an issue

I'm brand new to this forum and already I've upset somebody. The point I was trying to convey is that she was extremely rude about it, and acted as though her paperwork was priority over the patient... We were called via 911 for general weakness in a slightly disoriented patient...

Nurse/home heatlh on scene becoming an issue

Ground Level Fall. Sorry, assumed it was common terminology. I don't disagree with you, but in this case my issues were that that: 1. Why are we being asked to halt the entire call just so the pt. can verify that home health did their job. Lets say we show up on a code or something of the...

Nurse/home heatlh on scene becoming an issue

We had a call to a frequent flyer today, normally it is a glf victim requesting lift assist. Today it was simply a lift assist due to general weakness, pt was unable to stand at all. Home health is on scene... but dispatch was notified via a lifealert button :glare:. We had been called here a...

    How far do you drive?

First I was 50 miles from work. We do 48 at station and a minimum of 24 hours on call ($3/hr unless called in.) each week. Driving an hour to make $3 an hour didn't last long, I now live a block away from the station and absolutely love it.

    not assertive enough? advice please

Always remember it's their emergency, not yours. We're all human, if you intend to stay in this field you will make your fair share of mistakes. We all have our stories. If you find yourself too anxious on calls to remember your duties just remember your basics. Don't get tunnel...

    AMR's Fate

AMR took over here for a year and left a few years back. The business of EMS is constantly all over the place and companies like AMR are definitely effected by it. But they're not new to it either, they're not going calling it quits any time soon that's for sure.

Psych Hold - How do you assess?

Great example of good pt. care. Why anybody thinks you should not be talking to your pt. about their personal life on an IFT is beyond me. My mother spent her last few years in an alzheimer's ward at a care facility. That definitely taught me some important values about how to care for...

BP cuffs... definitely one of the more under-appreciated tools on the rig.

What happens if you perform CPR on a non arrest

I am a little shocked that this is such a common occurrence! Still have yet to experience that one. But I suppose it is a pretty efficient way to check one's response to painful stimuli
