I never carry when I am on a call or at the station. I do carry quite a bit as a civilian. A few people mentioned combined police/EMS earlier - Highland Park, TX does that. They have you work rotating shifts as a cop, a firefighter, and a paramedic. I have heard that the cops have bunker gear...
